This was an overall wonderful experience and despite some lukewarm reviews I read here about Avalon I am happy to report that we have absolutely nothing but positive thoughts regarding this experience.
We started with 4 nights in Prague at the Prague Hilton. We liked the hotel and amenities very much especially the wonderful and plentiful breakfasts. We had no trouble getting around Prague and enjoying all the beautiful sights. We were pleasantly surprised with the food and it's reasonable prices.
Our first glimpse of the Tapestry and our cabin was very positive. We liked the cabin and it's generous storage space and especially liked the great bed and separate duvets.
We can't say enough about the great crew and especially our cruise director Mark Wismeijer who was patient, professional, informative and a good sport. Every crew member we encountered appeared to be happy and enjoying their job.
The meals were surprisingly very good with lots of variety and the wine was everflowing. Loved the fact you could get coffee etc. 24hrs. a day.
We did all of the inclusive tours and enjoyed them all. The only disappointment was the Vienna concert which took place in a very ordinary room but the concert itself was quite good. I guess we were expecting an Opera House type of venue.
We were travelling with three other couples and we all enjoyed the evening entertainment and dancing. The staff show was quite funny and they were very good sports.
The river cruise was so much better than ocean cruising due to the leisurely pace and beautiful scenery. The German and Austrian countryside is breathtaking. The highlights for us were the small town of Regensburg, the Wachau Valley, Melk Abbey and the fabulous entry to the city of Budapest.
All in all this was a wonderful holiday and we were very impressed with Avalon and it's professional and friendly crew. I can't think of anything we didn't like on this cruise.
