A ride on the QM2 cannot be compared with a 'normal' cruise ship, since its is built to cross the atlantic. We were (mostly) very pleased with the set-up.
Cabin 11072 on the 11th floor was very comfortable (bigger than a comparable cabin on the Crystal Symphony) and it had every one needs for 11 days (enough space in the bathroom (shower only) and in the closets for cloth. The Maid service was ok but not more. She did the minimum she had to do but nothing more (the windows and the balcony floor were very dirty during the entire 11 day cruise).
The dining room (Britannia Restaurant) is huge, but we had for 4 days a table for two and for 7 day a nice table for 4 next to the window. The food was good however the service lacked standards of other cruise lines. The sommelier was always late with hour wine (after having had the appetizer). We ate once at Todd English (extra charge of US$ 30.- per person). Here the food was excellent and the portions were huge!! The self service Restaurant Kings court is the worst we have seen on any cruise ship. It is divided into 4 Restaurants in the evening and thus for breakfast and lunch the layout is very confusing. For BFST no fresh eggs are prepared and the buffets are small and crowded. We preferred to eat BFST at the Britannia Restaurant which offered a nice BFST Menu and good and mostly fast service. QM2 also features a large selection of Bars. We loved to have a drink at the Commodore Lounge (below the bridge), the Chart room (good music) or the Champagne Bar. For the best coffee on the ship and a light lunch we often went to Samuel's.
We made 2 excursions which were organised by Cunard (in Olden and Flam). As on all Cruise ships the excursion are totally overpriced but at least well organised. We visited Hamburg, Oslo and Stavanger on or own since we knew these cities from earlier visits.
The overpricing is also valid for the photo service ($25 for a single photo is robbery).
Check-in and check-out were well organised and quite fast (we sneaked out earlier than mentioned on the check-out sheet we had received since we had organised our own transport to/from London Heathrow to/from Southampton with Smith for Airport/SfA(which we can definitely recommend to everybody). SfA is much cheaper than the limousine service offered by Cunard (UK£ 72.- compared to US$ 299.- !!!)and we had two excellent drivers with clean cars.
Overall we were satisfied with the ship, the cabin, the Bars and Restaurants but the personal service did definitely not reach the standards of Crystal, Celebrity or RCCL.
