We are a family of 5 with the three boys age 10,13 and 16, my husband and I are both 49. My cruise only travel agent had recommended this cruise because of the exceptional pricing and the fact that there were balcony cabins that held five. She was a "new agent" for us as our previous agent retired. We had previously sailed with Royal Caribbean and Disney and our former agent had steered us away from Carnival. This was our first Carnival cruise. She booked us into a balcony guarantee which was also a first for us as we had previously picked out cabin right away. So needless to say I was a tad nervous. I watched the pricing and we did get an exceptional cost value with this cruise, prices never went down and in fact went up shortly after we booked. I was nervous about our cabin and was totally shocked when our docs arrived and we had been upgraded to a suite.
Embarkation: Because of Skippers Club this was not difficult for us. The lines looked horrendous in Miami but they seemed to move along albeit slowly. Muster was horrible on this cruise. It took an hour, was incredibly disorganized and I hope I never have to live through another muster like this one. It was scheduled for 4:00 and we got back to our room after 5:00. If this is standard on Carnival I'm surprised more people who have experienced 15 minute musters on other ships just didn't get off the ship before it left port. It certainly started my first Carnival cruise worried about the week.
First Impression: My first impression of the Triumph was positive. I had heard all sorts of comments about the Las Vegas atmosphere of Carnival and I am NOT a Las Vegas fan. The Triumph interior was quite lovely and not too over the top. These ships are not beautiful ships to look at, they are floating barge hotels with funny little bows. I did not take a picture of this ship. That said, they are unbelievably large and awesome and you see these ships across all lines. Me, I love the old ocean liner ships to look at and even Disney's ships are "shiply". Once inside any ship you forget what they look like from the outside so it really is irrelevant. The lobby and elevators are downright stunning with little touches here and there. The theme of the lobby is "The World".
