Amazing itinerary, lovely ship!!

Sail Date: April 2012
Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean
Embarkation: Barcelona

Having sailed on the solstice In 10/10, we were curious to see how the ship was maintained. We were impressed! celebrity does a great job maintaining the ship. We have a wonderful suite aft. Finally the one they show online and in the brochure! Big porthole and the sliders. the view aft is wide with a partial starboard view too! This was unbelievable as be approached and departed each more beautiful port. venice was so jaw dropping! Really too much to take in. We enjoyed the service of our butler. We traveled with a third so the extra room on the balcony was needed. What a perfect place to hang out and take the sights in. the cabin location is very remote, so it's extremely quiet.

We aso have sailed the silhouette transatlantic last fall. the food in mdr is not as good on the solstice as we found on the silhouette. That was outstanding, this was good. Celebrity still has the best mdr food on the mainstream cruise lines. The speciality restaurants were all good. Silk Harvest More was excellent! we missed the lawn club and porch from the updated silhouette. Much better use of space on the newer ships.

This was all about the port stops and celebrity did a great job of managing that process. We book with the cruise line and feel safer when aboard. the bus we were on while on the Amalfi coast broke down,. Within an hour we had a new bus and were off and never missed a beat.

This is a very port focused trip. The first sea day was after after 4 days in different major ports. The ship activities seem very minimal. No art auction, no champagne tastings... We don't care but if you're looking for a active ship, this is not it. Quiet bars, quiet spaces, lovely if that's the expectation. The disembarkation was smooth! Celebrity did a great job and the port of Barcelona is so easy! They even have the luggage come out just like at an airport! No digging in a warehouse! 20 minutes to the airport. Very easy. Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Solstice Sky Suite Continental Deck (6) 1198

Great cabin! Great layout, even with a pole in the room. Large aft balcony with amazing views. Excellent storage space. Quiet location.

Port and Shore Excursions

Is this a secret? Some of the most beautiful, scenery we've ever seen! The color of the water is amazing. Old walled city, pretty sights, great food.

A favorite to just walk around and take it all in. A favorite shopping stop for leather products at amazing prices.

What a completely unexpected treasure! The sailing in or out alone is magnificent! The town is an easy walk after tendering. We walked around, enjoyed a pizza lunch that was some of the best pizza we have ever had. Guess it doesn't hurt to be that close to Italy! There is no need to get local currency. Most accept euros or credit card.

Celebrity provided a water taxi shuttle that worked great. Venice is so beautiful it was hard to take it all in. it was very crowded but still enjoyable. we had a good pasta lunch on the canal. We plan to go back and stay for a few days.

St. Paul de Vence

Loved St. Paul. We had done this tour before with holland. This nice portion was terrible. The bus spent more time by the airport than the main drive. No photo opportunities. The tour guide wasn't very good, spending too much time telling us we came in the rainy season, talking about skiing and school schedules,.... St Paul is the reason to book. One of the most magical places we've very seen!
