Ive decided to write a review because of all the bad reviews about MSC.I wanted to put people in the picture of what it was like for me.We booked this cruise for my 40th birthday,My wife and 2 kids travelling (Daughter 13,Son 11).After booking through MSC website I decided to look up the Splendida, only to find 9 out of 10 Bad reviews,i started to panic! what have i let myself in for?.Before booking with MSC make sure you realise its a £500 deposit which you will lose if you cancel!First thing i didn't like about the Company.

The cruise itinerary was ,Genoa,Barcelona,Tunis,Valletta,Messina,Rome(Civitavecchia). As we booked direct we bought or flights separate, going to Rome (CIA).Easy Bus/Train to Rome Termini(10 Euros)all of us.and then train to Civitavecchia,(16Euros )then short walk to port to catch coach. On arrival very busy, drinks soft drinks laid on, took a bit of time boarding.on first impressions looks impressive,Rooms were very nice couldn't fault them. More hairdryer, minibar nice king size bed 2 fold up beds for kids which came down when we went to dinner. That was my first complaint,As we had kids with us it seemed the cabin porter was just waiting around outside every night for us to leave.it seemed to put you in a bit of a rush, instead of relaxing, after all I'm on holiday, was a bit regimented like being in the Army.We had the All inclusive package (Allegrissimo).Which was needed with 2 kids.Cocktails,beers.spirits,wine by the glass, were included,Ice cream, cakes, smoothies for kids. This was £38 adults £19 Kids,If you don't drink or may have 1 or 2 on night then i wouldn't bother, but it is expensive for alcohol. The package was sometimes not known by the staff as it just got revamped. You can only have wine by the glass and is a bit limited,Dearest was about 6 euros a glass mostly Italian wine,Beers, bottles of Beck, Corona,Heineken,Bulmers cider ,Stella ,Draught lager as well.all about 5,50 euros a bottle.and most premium spirits ,with mixers about 7,50 euros about the same as cocktails. But you can get Malt whiskeys and Remy Martin XO cognac on this which was 12 euros a shot! Just have 3 of those you've got your money back!.Ice creams and cakes were included in the cafe bar. Also room service (not Drinks)just food sandwiches, and all mini bar drinks,If you dont get this package dont forget theres 15% added on the bill.Personally if you like a few drinks then get this package. This starts as soon as you get on to you leave.Make the most of it!.. Port and Shore Excursions

Been here before, best places les Ramblers, port etc,Problem here is not enough time 1:30 arrival back about 5:30.1, dont go on the shopping excusion! As when we got here its a Sunday and everythig was shut(shopping wise). Also when leaving the ship Its Better to get a taxi to les ramblers abut 10 euros.on the way back theres a bus at the bottom of the ramblers to ship alot cheaper then getting the coach MSC put on.the next day on board was at sea.could be a bit boring ,but made the most of my all inclusive package.

I didnt bother with any excursions,on this cruise.Genoa a nice medieval city, from the ship a short walk to most of the things you want to see,Aquarium ,harbour, sights etc,Went in Aquarium, quite expensive but it was ok 3 out of 5,walked the streets and nice old sail ship in harbour. You can see how far you have to walk if not just get a taxi.

Get a taxi then just explore the streets, lovely place, very hilly need good walking shoes trainers, visit palace shops etc.

Not enough time here, its Messina not Palermo, walked to church on top of hill otherwise not much to do .Maybe better with excursion, but you have to be up early!

We got on in Rome so cruise finished here,If you want to explore Rome by yourself then walk to train station(a long beach front).get ticket to Roma termini, cost 15 euros for 4 of us not much!,then buy Roma pass 30 euros comes with 2 tickets for any museum and 3 day travel card,Colosseum included, but this pass comes with quick entry so no need to Que for an hour! costs 17 to get in Colosseum, use the metro from termini,2 stops then your there, you can explore Rome for days so you have to be quick if you have to get back on ship!we stayed here for another 3 nights so had time. Right so ,first the Ship is 10 out of 10 same as rooms, staff mostly helpful always working, cleaning.so don't worry about the negative comments make the most of what you have,The food wasn't great,in the main restaurants i thought it was poor so don't think your getting fillet steak etc,all Italian mostly.Buffet was better for us get what you want, but could be busy,Pastas ,pizza etc,but for some unknown reason the lunch time had more variety ,curries, stews ,there was something for everyone.same as Breakfast, from bacon and eggs to pancakes and fruit. The only one major complaint was when we checked out,you have to be out of your cabin at 7am! too early this needs looking at MSC.The Gym is free with small number of free weights, but lots of machines. All in all a nice cruise but drinks are expensive get the all inclusive package.Don't look at the negative reviews ,you make your own holiday!

Family was a bit nervous here, but didn't need to be.went to sidi bou said and Carthage ruins.sidi bou said very picturesque place this is were you can buy all the tat you want from,But you have to haggle!.bought a soft camel for about 4 euros started at 60!So haggle if price to high just walk, the Carthage, found this fascinating, just walking around the ruins.then back to ship.Right, here,if you are a bit un easy then you might want a excursion, but it will cost you a lot.if not then do as i say, there will be camels and falcons in the port, the person in charge is a bit forward!ignore him and his mates, unless you want a ride for 30 seconds (5 euros).when walking through the port building you will arrive at the taxi hire desk ,you can either Hire a taxi here for about 40e to 60 euros depending were you want to go.We didn't! we walked out of the building and past all the taxi drivers, the when past the gate house there's some more taxis, the you haggle,i got a taxi for about 4-5 hours which cost me 30 euros,he took me to sidi bou then Carthage, left us to do whatever then took us back,(but remember his Number) as when coming back it was a different driver.they work in teams.Really nice people,£0 euros then 10 euro tip! so cost me same as port, but with tip.
