Thought I would return to HAL after a few years absence, the date and price suited, and the size of the ship was appealing.
Having read the recent Ryndam reports on CC I was a little aprehensive - No fear the ship is in excellent condition - no bare carpet patches of holes in the floor to be found - overall the experience delivered was 5 Star - OK a couple of niggles - the machine Coffee extremely awful for an america biased ship. The main entertainment group singers are 2 (I use the term loosley) dancers - too American Audience orientated - given that we Brits made up 75% of the passengers. On the plus side - good sized cabin - excellent cabin / bar and resturant service. Excellent food only one questionable menu. Attended both Mariner Lunches - again excellent. Buffet a little disorganised, but quality of food made up for that.
Overall the entertainment was not as good as P&O - see comments re main group, the saving grace was Len Lennor - Magican and Comedian, who was excellent, fortunately also a Brit.
And finally Norway in early May - extremely cold, worth seeing yes, would I go again yes, but later in the season probably June
Would I travel with HAL again, yes. This was my third HAL cruise, I do rate HAL above Princess. Certainly Ryndam offered a high level of personal service, coupled with a well kept ship.
Hopefully someone from HAL will read this report and finally sort out the coffee supplier, even basis Nescafe would taste better.
Lastly and nought to do with HAL - Dover Car Parking was shambolic - G4s who operate the car park and provide security were simply not organised, spent 40 minutes queuing in freezing conditions just to collect a parking pass, even though I was provided. Someone needs to sort the system out, the staff had not prepared any documentation.
