Ship Facts: Splendour of the Seas Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Splendour of the Seas Deck Plans
A great disappointment.
Having cruised with RCCL a couple of times before I was expecting a lot better than what we got.

First the ship: Cabins are of reasonable size and have plenty of storage space, have just been refreshed with new carpets flat screen TVs etc although they don't seem to have any interactive components in them, there were also no IPADS which were supposed to have been installed during the refurb.

Public areas are adequate without being anything too flash. Casino reeked of smoke so didn't go near that

Service: Mostly OK apart from the Guest relations front desk staff who seem hopeless. I have read recently about the cruise industry trimming budgets for staff training and that certainly seems to be the case here.

Food: Run of the mill boring menus produced by head office in Miami.Salad bar in the main dining room at lunch time is very good. Chops grill was very good. Wine is very expensive.

Entertainment, Rubbish, I am sure I had seen the same shows on other RCCL boats a few years ago. The cruise director seemed to have absolutely no charisma about him, told the same jokes I had heard years before as well, the whole entertainment package seemed stale and uninviting.

There seems to be an insistence on this boat for having a loud band play in the centrum most nights until at least 12am. Our cabin was near the centrum and as a result we could not sleep or even sit in our cabin and watch TV with out hearing this loud out of key so called band.

We made complaints to the guest relations desk staff who didn't seem to care, the Cruise director also didn't seem to care and even walked off while we were talking to him ! Not good and not acceptable RCCL!

We were finally moved to a new cabin on the third night of our cruise which made the rest of the cruise tolerable, but surely if you have paid for a cabin you have the right to be in that cabin without having to be bombarded by the so called entertainment, it was even suggested to us to go to the solarium as it was usually quieter in there ( it wasn't) and anyway we paid for the room so should be able to use it !

Overall the boat is okay, probably better sized cabins than on newer cruise ships, entertainment is rubbish and food is ok without being anything to write home about.
