Thomson Dream Cruise Review by Islay 1: Disappointing
We did our first cruise 'on The Dream' last year for our anniversary and had a wonderful time. The flight was on time, the crew were fantastic, there was loads of things to do, everything was clean, the food was great...couldn't have asked for more, so booked again for this year.
It really disappointed from the word 'go'
The flight was delayed by 1 1/2 hours and there was no explanation for that although once we were all on the plane, it took off fairly quickly and had a good flight.
The arrival at Palma was swift and we quickly got on board only to be directed to The Orion Restaurant for our safety briefing....well what a lot of nonsense that was. Apparently because of some late flights we all had to gather there to get the briefing as the other passengers had already done so earlier in the evening. Instead of them giving us the presentation on the bus, we all had to wait for all the buses to come in for a 5 minute presentation which was completely ridiculous. On More top of that we were not allowed to order a drink while waiting over an hour as it was the policy not to serve drinks whilst doing a safety demo..........oh come on Thomson!!! if the ship were ever to go down, how many of the passengers on board will not have had a libation or two!!!......unbelievable!!
Didn't even know at the end what we were all doing but we had booked the same cabin as last year so just made our own way there.
We had booked a Grand Suite which is pretty much shabby chic but acceptable and i have to say Yolanda was very good at keeping the place spic and span but there is only so much you can do with the place now as it is in need of serious upgrading. I know it's going into dry dock at the end of the year for some upgrading but i do wonder how much it will change.
The staff didn't seem as keen this year for some reason and lacked the enthusiasm of last year, although they were still very good.
The sail away party was abandoned due to the rain and there was no mention of it until i asked with the laclustre reply of "it's on deck 8"...neddless to say, there was nothing going on there by the time we got there.....
I'm boring myself now with this review but one other thing i was quite annoyed with was that they have made deck 10 a smoking area as opposed to deck 9 as in the seating area side of things which was good as you felt as though you weren't imposing on the non-smokers. The only problem there was that it was always filled with Thomson staff, ie the destination staff and the show crew which i didn't think was appropriate as they took over the whole area. Not good!!
Unfortunately we had already booked for next year so i'm pretty sure i won't be getting my deposit back as we definately won't be going back until things improve.
Sorry Thomson, you didn't make the mark this time. Less
