We very much enjoyed our Holland America cruise to the Western Mediterranean last fall. We have been on a Mediterranean cruise with Norwegian about 2 years prior but this was the best cruise ever.
We took the ship excursions in each port except Tunis and Monte Carlo and haven't a complaint about any. The guides were knowledgeable, courteous, and spoke excellent English. We enjoyed all ports except Tunis. We opted to not go into Tunis due to the political climate at the time. But instead chose to have a relaxing day on ship.
Our cabin was always clean, the laundry was well done, the food was delicious and presented impeccably. We didn't opt for any special restaurant. The Lido was good for breakfast or lunch. We never had long lines. The main dining with open seating worked just fine for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Can't say anything regarding the shows as they are not our cup of tea. DH and I did the onboard couples massage during the day while in Tunis which was relaxing. I had nail services done on a sea day which was pleasant.
We used the fitness facilities. They were adequate for our needs. We found the library/coffee cafe to be relaxing and adequate. We tried different lounges in the evening and enjoyed all. Some had piano, some had guitar, and some had string quartets.
The staff from the room stewards to the waiters and others in the crew were courteous and well-trained. Our fellow passengers also seemed to be happy with their experience and this made for a ship full of happy cruisers. Overall, our fellow passengers seemed upbeat and polite.
Another couple (family) joined us who have been on more cruises than we and they agreed that it was their best cruise ever.
Due to our satisfaction with this cruise we are booked on a Baltic Sea cruise this summer with Holland America. Happy sailing!
