Ship Facts: Monarch of the Seas Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Monarch of the Seas Deck Plans
A nice cruise
We sailed from Port Canaveral on Monarch of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean ship. The check in process was very pleasant and went quick. We were pleasantly surprised to hear that our stateroom was ready. Every other cruise we went on we had to wait till after lunch to go to our cabin. Unfortunately the shock of how small the cabin was left us quite surprised. Even though we had a porthole for a window we did have to stand on the bed to look out of it. Yes I know that when you are on a cruise you don't spend much time in your cabin but it would have been nice to have somewhere to sit other than the bed. Our cabin steward was very pleasant and did a great job. Coming back to be greeted by our names was a nice touch. Even better were the towel animals, I just love them.

The ship itself was nice. Not too big that you felt lost but big enough to not feel crowded in. The pool was kept up and water was a good temp. There were places to sit in the direct sun or in the shade, Did not use the hot tubs this time but many other people seemed to be enjoying them.

The dining room staff was wonderful. Wish I could say that about the food. It was ok. The size portions though were very small. Yes you could order more than 1 but a larger portion would have been better. The buffets were horrible. The dirtiest most unattractive slop. No one was cleaning up as food was dripped and dropped all over. And it was very hard to tell what most stuff was because the signage was too high to read. I am 5'3" and I couldn't see it. and I wasn't eating it if I didn't know what it was. They really need more staff at the buffets to serve, not just take away dishes. They were also very slow to restock the empty servings. The best place I ate was Sorentos Pizza.

Going to the private island of Cocoa Cay was delightful. A colorful island with hammocks to relax in and beautiful water. The little market place was way overpriced but cute to walk thru. Going to Nassau is not my cup of tea especially because most cruises go there so I've been there too many times. But if you go then check out the straw market, But don't pay the prices they give at first you can bargain for what you want because they all have the same stuff.

Overall it was a pleasant cruise and I enjoyed it but I didn't love it.
