Arriving in San Juan many hours before cruising was a nice bonus as we got to trek through the quaint streets of Old San Juan for the whole afternoon; it is quite close to where the Victory docks.
The Victory is smaller than I anticipated, but just as nice as any we have enjoyed previously. It was quite pleasant recognizing familiar faces and "getting to know" more of the guests with the smaller number of passengers aboard. Carnival IS the "Fun Ship," where you can be older, but not stodgy!
The food was good, a little less than I anticipated, but nonetheless GOOD. ALL the service personnel were friendly and helpful. The ship was kept perfectly clean and sparkling and the party rooms and casino were entertaining and open late. I did miss not having a separate room with a lively band to dance to that wasn't a disco; there was music in the corridor by the casino, but not quite the place to stop and spend the evening dancing. The karaoke was REALLY entertaining and More
the young man in charge was a hoot! Delightful! James, at the piano bar, was fun and kept up a lively pace of singing; I spent a lot of time in there! All of the music was loud!
I have found that with a group of 17 a cruise has something for everyone. There are the after dinner shows, the comedians, karaoke, piano bar, disco, dancing at the casino bar, and lots of bars! Those who want to go early to bed can go OR and you can stay up as late as you want! I LOVE CARNIVAL! Less
Carnival Victory Cruises to the Southern Caribbean
We took a "Do It Yourself Tour." We brought masks and snorkels with us and rented a taxi (same guy roundtrip) to take us to a beach where we swam with the turtles. The excurion boats bring the tourists here. We had a hotdog and some interesting original beach drink made up by the gal at the nearby beach bar for lunch - 3 1/2 hours was plenty! The whole day cost us $14 each and we even had lounge chairs and a beach umbrella! WOW!
Frank, of Frank Tours was courteous, efficient and FUN. You will end up being his friend, not just another tourist. We had him for the whole day and he took us EVERYWHERE, and the price was right! We were comfortable in a nice, air-conditioned van with only six of us; there was plenty of extra room! We had a nice "local" lunch up in the mountains and enjoyed his knowledgeable commentary about the island while we toured. Hope you get to meet him! We had 13 reservations for a private tour of the island and shopping. It ended up being a tram that piled in as many persons as could fit. The tram took us into town and dropped us for 3 hours of shopping. We went through the flea market and in and out of several stores and had a delightful lunch in a sidewalk cafe. The tram then picked us up and drove us up a steep incline to the top of a mountain where there was a huge souvenir junk shop with an exquisite view of St. Thomas. The highlight of the trip was the RUMRUNNER I had at the bar in the junk shop; it was SUPERB! The tour price wasn't bad - $28. firstname.lastname@example.org
