We are from Las Vegas, NV. This was our 6th. cruise. I feel that cruising is the best value for your money. I work hard and long for mine and want the most for my money.
We flew to Tampa on Sat. and stayed at the Mainsail. Jim, the shuttle driver picked us up at 5:05PM and we were checked in to our room by 5:30. This is a great place. They have 3 or 4 small ponds, with walking trails around them. A nice swing under the shade trees with a nice BBQ area.We ate there, as not to wait on the free shuttle to take us out and then call to be picked up again. The food and service was great. We had a large 1bed APT. VERY nice. The place was very quite being that close to the airport.
On Sunday we took the 11AM shuttle with with 3 other couples to the port.Arrived at the port at 11:30, they took our bags, waited through the lines, got checked in photos taken and on the ship eating at noon.
Monday was out first full day at sea.At around 10AM or so the Captain came over the PA and said we were turning around and heading BACK. Someone had an emergency and needed to be airlifted off the ship. About 11AM a Coast Guard C-130 flew over the ship and a short time later the Coast Guard Helicopter arrived and lifted someone off. Never heard who or why! By 12:30 we were back under way.
Tue. Cozumel, we did not book any excursions as we were going to the Butterfly Sanctuary on our own. It only cost $6 each to get in and they have a beach and pool to use. Looked very nice on line. Well, the taxi drivers did not know where it was. I showed them the print out and gave them the address and they STILL did not know. So we just looked around the port shop and went back on the ship. Stayed around the adult pool for a few hours. Very nice and no kids.
Wed. Belize,Had about a 20 min. tender ride to shore. We went to the Altum Ha Mayan Site and River Wallace.About 1:10 ride to the Site, saw a lot of the town, city and country side.Yes the towns are poor but not as bad as some people make it out to be. Spent about 50 min. walking around the Mayan Site, then 20 bus to the river. We were there for 45min. you could buy lunch and shop a little. The boat ride was about 1:30. Great time on the water, saw many animals. HOT but a great time. Our guide the whole time was JEN and she was the BEST.
Thur. Roatan, Maya Key Retreat 15 min. boat ride to the Maya Key This place was nice, but would not do it again. Too many people on a small island, food was ok.We were to be there until 2:30 but left at 1PM. At the peer was nice shop and then back on the ship.
Fri. Grand Cayman, Turtles,Turtles and more Turtles. Short tender ride 5-7 min.Very nice peer area and shops. Bus ride was about 30 min. to the turtle farm. This was by far the beat spot on the trip. You are there for just over 3 hours. 45 min. they will guide and show you everything, then you are on our own. And YES everyone WILL get to hold a sea turtle. They have a very large area to snorkel with the tons of fish and the sea turtles. A large resort style pool to swim in, sand beach 2-waterfalls and chairs with shade. Next time we will go there on our own and just spend the WHOLE day there. Across the street is the Dolphin Discovery Park. It is free to get in. For $25 you can get a photo of a dolphin giving you a kiss. You do not need to get in the water! A 1/2 block down the street is the Rum Cake shop. FREE RUM!!!! If you would like to check out the turtle farm the web site is WWW.TURTLE.KY GREAT TIME
Sun. back in port on time, waiting downstairs at 8:44 our zone called at 9:45 on bus to airport at 10AM
Over all a GREAT vacation. We made new friends ( Ed & Hazel) from Tampa and Frank and Bonnie. Vacation is what you make of it. Don't let the "parents" who CAN'T control their kids spoil your Vacation.
