MSC Opera March 19 to 26, 2005. Our original room was 7161 Inside room (13 meters), 25% smaller than the typical inside rooms on other cruise ships. This posed a problem since we had an infant with us requiring a crib (cruise knew at time of booking) which we could not safely put in the room along with a stroller since there was no room for the crib or pack 'n' play to be opened and simultaneously walk into the room.

Prior to sailing I spoke with an administrator on the ship and it was agreed that even an upgrade to oceanview or balcony would not allow for the crib and stroller in the room. Since a suite was available, we were offered the opportunity to pay to upgrade to the suite which we did. I wonder what would have happened if we refused to pay for the suite (23 meters), would the baby have slept in the hallway? We ended up in room 12002 which was lovely. Unfortunately the size of the rooms can never be overcome.

As for the rest of the cruise...wonderful. All the employees on board were wonderful. From the individuals who kept our cabins fresh with turn down service each evening, to room service, buffet lines, excursion desk, wake up calls, waiters and waitresses, everything was truly excellent. MSC does NOT AUTOMATICALLY put tips on your tab ($10 per person per day that other ships tag on) and I believe the excellent service noted on the MSC Opera is directly linked to the fact that they are hoping by providing fabulous service they will be tipped at the end of the cruise, which we more than happily did.
