Sail Date: April 2012
Destination: South Pacific
Embarkation: Sydney (Australia)

Hi all

We have just finished our 10day cruise on the pacific pearl. visiting ports - isle of pines, mystery island, port vila, lifou and noumea.

Being our first cruise we weren't quite sure what to expect - and after reading a few reviews there isn't much explanation of the cruise - so I'll try and be as detailed as possible.

Cruise - Pacific Pearl P215 Sydney - Sydney 10day 25apr-5thmay

Boarding:
We were advised of a 1230pm boarding time - so we decided to leave our hotel at 1030am - arrived at the port around 11:15. After being dropped off - our bag drop off was quick and painless and walked right through to checkin - didn't need to wait. Process was quick and simple. We were given a number and we waited to be called. 15 minutes later we were called in - went through customs - and was onboard 10 minutes later. After finding our cabin our luggage was already there.

Meals:
Platation: Buffet restaurant. Meals were good and always hot - More however the such a line up for each meal with the poorly designed buffet with lines from both directions to the middle of the buffet. We ate here the first 2 days and decided to try others.

Waterfront: Ate here for breakfast, lunch and dinner once we had our first dinner here. Such a nice restaurant with quick service - on occasions F&B staff a little on the rushed side - however meals were perfect in size and always good. Did not have to send a meal back at all. No cover charge for this restaurant.

Salt Grill: $40ea Cover.
A remarkable restaurant with the best meal we had on the ship. was intimate surroundings fantastic service and a range of meals from seafood - steaks. Side selections was good for those that don't like the fancy foods.

The Grill:
Only ate here a few times - good for a quick bite without havig to dress up for our meal.

Others:
Coffee shops were pretty much the same - nice coffees etc - bars - connexions, orient, mix were all nice quite places - and only went to the dome once.

Activities
P&O really tried to put on a good range of activities and entertainment shows which were all good. Also had different theme nights which changed the ship to party nights.

Overall
Ship was fantastic for our first cruise - was built in 1987 originally as ocean village 2 - however was looked after cleaniness wise. For our expectations it was amazing and great value then spending a week on the Gold Coast or similar. However we are definately looking to do another cruise but won't be with P&O - with new ships coming to Australia we will try these first. Less

Cabin review: Pacific Pearl 10192

Good Size Cabin, in the middle deck ten 10192 not much noise however cabin had few creaks in it when ship moving - but think that's normal. All cabins on the pearl are the same size - so no point in getting balcony or suite.
