An average cruise

Sail Date: April 2012
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

We were excited to finally be able to book a cruise over a Holiday, and expected it to be something special. Although this cruise was satisfactory, that was it, very average and in some circumstances disappointing.

Our Cabin was roomy and very comfortable. I was excited to have a bathtub, but it was actually a nuisance, hard to get in and out of to shower, useless to bath in since its so short. At least we saved water by only using it once to take a bath. Shower water pressure was challenging to get the shampoo out of your hair.

We enjoy kicking back in the evenings and watching a good movie. This proved to be a great challenge on this ship. 4 out of 5 movies we borrowed were so scratched they finally froze the dvd player, which we had to have changed out twice. We would highly recommend that Holland invest in a simple DVD buffer to take better care of the great movie collection they offer.

Food, well, I stick to my philosophy that if you can't find something More you like, there is something wrong with you! Although in general, we noticed that from our previous cruise on the Noordam in April of 2011, the food on this ship was many notches down in quality. Service in the Rotterdamn was top notch, but honestly the menus didn't even warrant dressing up most nights. Only 1 lobster night and Easter was so disappointing. We wondered if the Easter Holiday was downplayed because of the large number of Passover cruisers. Food was overall bland and not special. All in all, we will not remember the cruise for the food or service in the Lido buffet. One morning I waited a full 10 minutes for the eggs Benedict station to find someone to man it, my Husband and I never ate breakfast together once when eating here, we ended up getting room service for breakfast to avoid the slow breakfast service and older clientele practically running you over to get in front of you in line! We will avoid cruises in the future that have larger organized groups on board such as this one for Passover. Do some research before you book over any Holiday.

Overall, we loved the ports, especially St Barth's. We have nothing but positives to report about the ports and Holland's process at each destination. We only wish there would be more time in each port.

We will cruise on Holland again, but next time with less expectation and an appreciation for the great things that Holland offers to make cruising a traditional and special experience. Less

Cabin review: Maasdam Large Oceanview Stateroom with Portholes A

Cabin #610 Main deck, window. Window was small, room comfortable, but beds pushed together had a huge gap in the middle that was uncomfortable. Don't get excited about having a bathtub, it is unusable unless you are a child. Makes getting in and out of the shower harder. DVD players and movies are damaged. No mini fridge! Bummer.
