1st time cruisers, just returned...

Sail Date: April 2012
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)

We just returned from a 7 nite cruise from NYC on the Norwegian Jewel to Florida/Bahamas. What a great time!! first off, if you have teenagers, there is no other way to go!!! All I have to say is, WOW. Something for them to do from 9am till 1am. Helped it was spring break, of course.
We took a bus from Braintree Ma to NYC Dock, we would never do that again, ride was too long, bus uncomfortable and stopped way too much. Also, keep in mind, of this is the way you go, ship docks at 7am, need to be out of cabin by 9 am, off ship by 10am, and bus doesn't come till 1 PM.
First nite was freezing on ship, as was the next day, kind of a bummer,, but should have expected that as we were leaving from NYC.
Staff was fantastic! Food was fantastic! We went out to 3 fee restaraunts, they were good, but the free, included ones were just as good, if not better. The only one I would say to check out is, teppanyaki, fun and delish. Cabin was great, Deck 11 is perfect, mini suite More with balcony.
Shore excursions: we did islands of adventure at universal, it was a blast! Norwegians island, stirrup cay is awful. Stay on the ship. Free Buffett is a zoo, beach was lame. They are doing construction work, so it looks like they Re trying to make it better, but, I just don't see it. waste of trip, everyone goes, so it would be a great day to stay on board. We also did Blue Lagoon beach for excursion in Nassau, FABULOUS! Gorgeous beach, so worth it. You can walk around, see dolphins, sea lions, etc. don't buy any star excursions for blue lagoon, buy them at beach, cheaper. Free lunch was awesome. This was my fave day. It was perfect.
The pool area is very small, and very crowded, the above decks are really nice to lounge, tip, u HAVE to get up early (7am) go down, find your chairs, spot, etc and claim it with towels, books, hats, whatever, but you must or you won't have anywhere to sit. If ou get a nice spot. It's fantastic.
Tsars breakfast is delish, also, the back deck on floor 12 has a great breakfast and outdoor seating beyond the buffet area, it is so nice. Azur is delicious as well. We had 2 13 year olds with us, they LOVED the blue lagoon restaraunt, it is open 24/7.
The kids had the time of their l,Ives, we never saw them, they didn't want to leave. The soda package is a must for kids, so easy.
All and all. This was our first cruise and it was fantastic, we would definitely do it again. We would take our own car to NYC, and would not spend $$ on restaraunts, not worth it, and finaly stirrup cay is awful, ship it for the day. :)
Other than that, have nothing but positives!!!! Loved it. Less

Cabin review: Norwegian Jewel

Deck 11, room 11090. Great room, balcony. Bed for me was so comfy, kids couch that opened to bed, very hard, but they never complained? There is also a thick, curtain you can pull to separate the rooms, it's great. Mimi suite is perfect for couple or family of 4. Wendell our steward was beyond exceptional! He was so happy and always went out of his way for us.

Port and Shore Excursions

Beach Break

FANTASTIC, GORGEOUS Island. Don't miss it. Dolphins, sea lions, parasailing, so fun! It is one of the most beautiful islands I have ever been to.
