To start, we are a family with kids who do not vacation that often. We definitely prefer to vacation less often and take really great trips than take average vacations more often. We stayed in the 2 bedroom family villa, which was perfect. The food was great (most of the time), as was the entertainment. Overall, we had a great trip and look forward to travelling on the Epic or another NCL ship in the coming years.
The Room: After a quick embarkation and lunch, out 2 bedroom family villa was cleaned and ready. It is spacious and perfect for 4-5 guest. Personally, i don't think the room would accommodate 6 people well, unless at least two are young children. The master bedroom was nice, as was the huge bathroom. The coffee maker in the small eating area was a great feature, as was the mini fridge. It was nice to be able to store water bottles in the room. Also, the storage space was great. The closet in the master bedroom was deep, and there was also storage space within the More bathroom. Same goes for the smaller 2nd bedroom. This bedroom has a daybed which is dressed with sheets at night time. The steward can also put sheets on the daybed/sofa in the living room if needed. The TVs had nice interactive features and free movies were available from the concierge. However, a better channel selection would have been well appreciated. The balcony was small but fine and quiet.
Service: The service, overall, was great. The butler was lovely, as were the room stewards. It was awesome to come back to the room to fresh cookies, fruit, pastries, or chocolates. The service in all restaurants, whether suite-only, additional cost, or included, was good. The concierge was lovely and helpful as well
Food: The food was delicious, especially in the Epic Club (Haven Restaurant) and Courtyard Grill. These two restaurants are connected, with the Courtyard Grill serving more casual fare and a light snack buffet on sea days. The Epic Club is open for all meals. The breakfast is delicious; there is a cold buffet of sliced fruits, berries, fresh pastries, bread, muffins, lox, and veggies. Off the menu, eggs cooked to order, steak and eggs, french toast, eggs Benedict with seafood, etc. are available. The produce here is a bit higher quality than that of the main Garden Cafe, as are the egg dishes. Lunch and dinner are also delicious. The beef au jus sandwich, tuna burger, and fries are great lunch options. For dinner, i'd recommend the filet mignon, salmon, and mocha mousse. The dishes at the regular indoor and outdoor buffets, Taste, and Le Bistro were also good. We ordered room service twice and it was good. Overall, i never had a bad meal, aside from a slightly tough steak at Taste and oily noodles at the buffet.
Entertainment/Activities: The indoor and outdoor activities were fun. Hanging out by the villa pool or going in the hot-tubs is always a good way to relax. We often spent the late morning and early evening of sea days there, while filling up the afternoons with water slides, lunch, trips to the arcade, shopping, walking around, and snacking. Kids also seemed to enjoy the rock wall and sports area. For nighttime shows, the Blue Man Group was good, as was the Crew Talent Show.
Overall this NCL cruise was wonderful. We had a great time, and it was awesome to be on a cruise with people who had the same goal as we had. TO HAVE FUN!!! (AND NOT GET DRESSED UP). I'd recommend this trip to families and young people with the same goal. Also, definitely consider staying in the Haven area. It makes such a difference, and provides way more amenities than suites on other ships. If you were on the epic, please comment with thoughts! Also, if you are considered going on the Epic, id be happy to answer questions! Less
