Uniworld in a world of its own

Sail Date: December 2011
Destination: Europe - River Cruise
Embarkation: Other

The SS Antoinette is a new ship that is just wonderful. The cabin was very comfortable the bathroom had very nice amenities, the public areas were always clean and very easy to just kick back and enjoy between destinations. The crew, especially the cruise director, Waltor was excellent and always had good suggestions on what to do, the club entertainment was a married couple with a husband who could really bang out a tune on the piano and a wife who was very personable and also had a great voice. She got everyone to enjoy themselves and as a result I got my husband on the dance floor. The 24 hour teas/coffee service came in very handy as well as the on-board laundry room. The entire crew was very professional and helpful and it definitely felt like a five-star hotel.

The ports of call were nicely spaced so if you didn't want to leave the ship early you could select a later time, plus they provided transportation back to the ship if you wanted lunch on board. One of the More things I really loved was their wireless speaker system, each tour group only had about 15-20 people and you didn't have to stand in a tight cluster to hear the tour guide, in fact you could wander ahead or hang back and still hear the tour guide remarks which made it a lot better experience.

We have been on many other cruises, but we are now sold on Uniworld because of the smaller boat you have an option of dining when you want, wine with lunch and dinner, an opportunity to sit with new people every night, form new groups, or just have a romantic dinner for two. Toward the end of our cruise we had low water, they gave us each ship credits and when we got home a check in the mail for any inconveniences we experienced. The first time when I left a ship there was no bill for our extras like wine, excursions, etc. Great experience can't say enough good things about the river cruise line and the SS Antoniette. Less

Port and Shore Excursions

Christmas markets

This was our boarding port so we got in early and did some exploring on our own. The tour guide the next day took us to many spots we had missed the day before. Our only regret is we only purchased a few items because we thought with so many ports we would see things we wanted later. Don't miss Colon, they had some of the best markets especially by the chocolate factory where so many vendors carried unique items.

City Tour

Liked the tour guides history of Colon and some of its famous buildings/stories. Each tour guide is different so talked to the cruise director and let him/her know what you are interested in most, shopping, architecture, history. We did not have much time in the Christmas markets but that was fine because we went to most the day before. We were more interested in the history.
