Costa Classica - better than expected
OK - so you've read all the reports about how bad Costa Classica is and has been.
Well we booked our trip before we read any reviews and then panicked when we started to read the bad reviews.
Now that we have returned from a 2 week cruise out of Singapore we can safely say that we had a ball thanks to the staff onboard.
We achieved this by doing our 'own thing' in port and being ultra careful how much we had to drink.
Good points -
This is one very clean ship - scrubbed down every night. Spotless
Food - you can have anything on the menu and as much as you like. Portions are small so you will need to augment your portions by ordering 'extra' and they will happily provide this. Remember they are catering for over 25 nationalities at any one time.
Your on an Italian ship so expect lots of Pasta but a good variety of other food along with it. And make sure you ask for fries or potatoes etc - they don't come with every main course. Menu is More extensive.
Bread and roll varieties are good and cakes are awesome.
Cabins - very clean and good bedding.Larger than on other cruise boats.
Itinery - reasonable but some ports like Langawi could be given a miss.
Crewe - brilliant but don't expect a long chat with the Captain or the officers - they stay out of the way of passengers.
BAD POINTS. -
Trips ashore - outlandishly expensive and definetly not worth the money. We did our own thing and saved a small fortune.
Drinks - ridiculous drinks package over priced. Beer average around #4.80 euros and even a small bottle of water is #2.80 Euros all +15% service. That takes a pint to over a fiver sterling or $6 US.
One night we had 1 beer, 1 G&T, 2 cocktails that came to over #45 Euros + 15% Service Charge.
WATCH OUT COSTA - YOUR KILLING THE GOOSE NEVER MIND THE EGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Entertainment - Dire is not too strong a word. The shows are poor with the dancers going through the motions of poor choreography. The singers in the bars are very low key.
Overall you get a good bed, reasonable food just don't expect 5 star entertainment or drink too much. Less
