Hawaii was a destination we wanted to see so we booked a 3 day land and 7 day cruise in March. Long trip getting there from the east coast but worth the effort. Hotel in Honolulu was Marriott Waikiki Beach which had an NCL desk inside. Excellent hotel--right across from the beach. We stayed 3 nights and boarded the ship Saturday 3/24/12 in Honolulu .We were able to do our pre-boarding at the hotel, so had priority boarding on the ship.
Everything about the ship was great except the food in the dining room and buffet. At the buffet nothing was ever hot and often times you had to stand and wait while they refilled the bowls or do without.Dining room food was just OK. Didn't do any specialty restaurants because I think we spent enough money to warrant good food without paying extra.
Ship was clean, friendly, great entertainment. We had plenty of storage in our balcony stateroom and location was great--two doors from stairway-- up one flight to buffet/ pool area.
At stern of ship is an adults only pool.Small but much quieter if you so desire.I must say though that it was nice that they kept the music at a normal volume at the main pool--we've visited pools where you can't even have a conversation. And they often had nice entertainment by the pool.
We had booked on the Internet two trips prior to going. Turned out to be excellent choices.
Sunday we booked an all day excursion on Maui with Valley Isle Excursions--"Road to Hana"--tour is only 12 people total in comfortable van with big windows and so worth it. www.tourmaui.com
Tuesday we booked a tour on Hilo with Marylou's tour. She and her husband do separate and /or combined tours--she will take 4 people and he will take 6 people--We spent the day with them and a nice family group that wanted to travel together. Very personal and informative. kensmet@hotmail.com
We had a late night flight on the Saturday that we returned, so booked our Pearl Harbor tour for that day. It is a must if you plan to visit HI--very moving experience.
