An open and honest review of our first ever cruise (Sorry if it is long). We, mum (44) dad (53) and two daughters (17) had never cruised before and chose the Independence of the Seas for what is likely to be our last family holiday before University for the girls. Hence this was a very important holiday to us and lots of memories would be created. No worries needed, we have a lifetimes of very happy ones.

We travelled from Cambridge to Southampton by train which was easy and a very cheap option. A taxi from the station to the dock completed the journey. As we turned a corner, gasps could be heard, there she was, huge and glistening in the sunshine. Excitement levels rose even further. Arrival at the departure lounge about 1000 am and sat waiting to board. Not long. Check in was slick and fast and we were walking on board at 1100. WOW, WOW, WOW. The ship was fairly empty and gave us time to wander and try to take it all in. A coffee in the Prom Cafe and dad and the girls went exploring further whilst I was on hand luggage watch!

Went to Windjammer for lunch, not too busy and wide variety of food. Cabins were ready at 1330. The girls had an inside cabin which suited them. We were across the corridor with a slightly larger room with a balcony. Both rooms were spotless and suited our needs. The girls came across for fresh air and views as and when they wanted (Lisbon Bridge was one of them). We had My Time Dining and ate each night in King Lear. We decided to eat each night at 1800 hrs and were lucky to be assigned a window table. Food was excellent and a variety to choose from each night. The deconstructed Beef Wellington was divine and highly recommended. Waiter was attentive and nothing too much trouble. They even pointed out dolphins who were racing the boat.

Superior Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D1

Cabin 7222 - excellent location, 2 floors away from the Prom and stairs dropped you at Sorrento's. Cabin very quiet and gave stunning views of most locations (only port where I couldn't see anything other than the sea was Maderia
