We arrived in Ft Lauderdale 2 days prior to our cruise. Stayed at the Hyatt 17th St Convention Center Hotel. A real mixed bag. It looks like they took an old hotel, tried to fix it up and it just is not a good place. Our room smelled, they changed it the next day but there must be nicer places than this.
The Zuiderdam is a wonderful ship. Clean and truly functional.
Embarkation was a snap. We were sent to the holding area and in about a half hour we were on the ship.
Our room was a large outside on the Main Deck. It was a room for 4 but we were only two. There was a huge couch and a pulldown in the ceiling. We had a large queen bed and a lot of storage space.
The bathroom had a tub and was quite spacious. The water pressure was good when taking a shower.
The ship was easy to get around. It never seemed crowded. It was super clean and the staff was always gracious.
The Vista Dining room had delicious meals. The bread was so good!!
We made reservations in the Italian restaurant 3 nights (no charge) and it was fantastic!!
The Lido was also a good place to eat. We also had room service each morning. Excellent and our coffee was always hot!!
We didn't go to any shows because we were going on excursions at each port and wanted to rest when we had a chance. We did go to the movie room one day. Large comfortable chairs and free popcorn!! Movies were current too.
The Captain always gave us updates on our position. Very interesting talks too.
The Panama Canal was amazing and Costa Rica too. We set up our own excursions at the ports.
Only bad one was in Curacao. The multi colored school bus at the port is a rip off. They drive you around through neighborhoods and that is about all. Do not take this "tour".
All in all a great cruise. The ship is going into dry dock in the fall so it will be even better!!
