Our family went on our first cruise this year. We selected the Star based on the timing of spring break and the ports. We were excited about Honduras and Belize. We enjoyed each stop, but did learn things along the way.
First, consider the start time each excursion you are signing up for! We were traveling with teens and would have liked to start our tours later in the day. We all needed more sleep.
Second, do not book anything over 4 hours that includes bus, boat and lots of travel time. We went on an excursion to the Mayan Ruins at Lamanai. Nice idea, but it required 1 1/2 hours by bus, 1 hour by boat just to get there!
Third, the selection of an upgraded room was well worth it! We stayed in a two bedroom family suite and were happy with the layout, amount of space, the butler services and the perks. We hung out in our room as a family much more than we anticipated. It was very comfortable, in fact the bed in the room was better than our bed at home!!!
Great staff on board and the ship was clean. The dining was our only disappointment. The food was just ok. It did not meet our expectations. We tried 5 of the dining options that were not included in the complimentary dining as we wanted decent food. The food often was served cold or not the correct temperature. Our favorite meals were at the Teppanyaki and Tex-Mex dining options. The main dining rooms were ok, but the waits were longer than we hoped and the food moderate. We will cruise again, just not sure we would go on the same ship or cruise line. We will likely choose based on the ports!
