Having won a 4 day trip with hurtigruten on travelchannel-my wife and i had booked a voyage on M/S polarlys and on the 5 th of march flew from Copenhagen to Tromso to catch her,arrived at Tromso airport two hours prior to Polarlys arrival in Tromso-so we went to the harbor and saw the Hurtigruten ship come in-but something was wrong-Finnmarken was her name-so i got hold of a couple of guys who worked on the dock,and asked about Polarlys?-she sailed last night!!OMG there we were my wife and stranded..Then one of the guys said that it was not unusual for this to happen-so we went onboard an waited for all the others to check in and then went to reception to inform them of our plight.We then got a first glimpse of Hurtigruten service,the nice lady laughed and set about finding us a cabin which was,nt a problem-we could even have an upgrade,but since it was a price in a competetion,and we had only won an inside cabin-we settled for that..
So we got an iside cabin on Finnmarken and it was cosy-we didnt spend much time there,as there were more important things outside-The next day i broke a tooth and our trip looked like it was ruined-i had incredible pain and couldnt eat any of the excellent food-then we went to reception to ask if there was a dentist in the next port of call-i was asked to come back in 15 minutes,after 10 minutes i was asked to go to recepetion-in the next port a cab would be waiting,a dentist had been informed and the driver knew the adress,and they had had instructions,that there was only 1 hour till the ship would leave,the whole thing was completed in 50 minutes..
The reason i write such a long story is to show the level of service on Hurtigruten-My wife and i may not be seasoned cruisers,but do recognise good service when we see it.
