Loved the NCL SUN, not impressed with Port Canaveral

The morning of the cruise, it was chaos at the hotel at which we stayed in Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach. The shuttle services in the area could be way more organized. They should have a look at how it's done in Miami FL.

This was our 5th cruise with NCL. I liked the layout of the NCL SUN very much; it was very easy to find our way around and never too far to go. The only issue/complaint I heard was that the Casino, which is located mid-ship and always very smokey, so that the smoke could be smelled from quite a distance up the stair-wells & down the hallways to the staterooms.

Captain "Tom" was very personable and attended most passenger greet functions. He also provides an informative overview from the bridge each morning. The Crew on this ship are very friendly and disciplined.

Although we had a piece of our luggage confiscated due to liquor inside, we never did receive a letter at our stateroom telling where to go to fetch it. We have done this before, More so we knew when it didn't show up that we would be required to attend with Security to retrieve it from them after opening it and forfeiting the contents; we just pay the corkage fee for bringing wine on board. In this case, we just followed all the other guests who were also looking for their luggage, but Guest Services refused to give us any information as to it's whereabouts or where to find it. ??? weird ???

Thank goodness that NCL has decided to leave Port Canaveral next season. The pier they use is disorganized and has no immigration services. This meant having to appear in person in the ship's theatre at 7 AM to clear USA Customs for all non-USA passengers. We experienced a poorly controlled crowd but got through it in 20 minutes before heading to the dining room for breakfast.
I booked shuttle arrangements for our trip ahead of time because we arrived late the night before the cruise, so we had to stay in a hotel one night. I wanted to book a round-trip from/to MCO Airport. I booked it with ATC (Around the Clock) shuttle. Angelica has wonderful customer service presence, but when it came down to the service, they failed to provide what we expected. At the pier on the return, they were 35 minutes late to pick us up and then we had to also pick up at the Disney pier. Apparently, those folks couldn't wait for the shuttle because there was no one a the Disney pier by the time we got there. It was a good thing that we had an afternoon flight from MCO.

Port and Shore Excursions


We've visited this port several times, so we didn't want to do much. As always, we walked through town wading through the many vendors who want your money.

Because we tender at this port, you have to be prepared when you get off the ship. I like this town (our 2nd visit).

This is a nice stop, as beaches go. It was our only day of sun, so timing was perfect for us; not so with the NCL Pearl that same week. The BBQ lunch was well done & the facilities are good. Again, we had to tender, so had to remember to take everything you might need before leaving the ship.

Leaving the pier, we were inundated with cab drivers wanted to take us into town. We opted to have one take us to the far end of town & drop us there so we could walk back towards the ship at our leisure. This worked out fine, but we could have walked both ways because it's not far and the weather was cool.
