While the Eclipse wasn't a total disappointment, there were some issues which led my wife and i to decide we wouldn't try Celebrity again.
Embarkation-fast and easy. Concierge class was worth it, as you got priority check in. We were on the ship in 1/2 hour from being dropped off at Miami port
Cabin-felt small and cramped. closet was fair sized, but drawers were tiny. We ended up using the storage above the bed for clothes, and the rest out of our suitcase, stored under the bed. Apple TV was pretty cool. Cabin steward was good..helpful and friendly.
Food-the food in the main dining was very good...probably the best i've had on any cruise. Murano's is a must. waiter was great.
Activities-this is where the disppointment kicked in. We were on RCCL Freedom of the Seas last year, and eclipse failed terribly in this regard. Activities average to poor. Cruise director mike was nowhere to be found, except at the morning announcements.
Staff-terrible, except our waiter and room steward. Very few people we encountered(bartenders, pool butlers, etc) seemed happy to be there. Pool bar service was non existant, as we had to go back to the bar everytime we wanted a refill. Head waiter seemed put out when we had a change request (perhaps he was hawking a tip...). The only time the staff at the oceanview cafe were attentive was when the captain was eating.
Ports of call were awesome. San Juan was a blast, St. Maarten was fun, and St. Kitts was relaxing. Book way ahead for St. Kitts excursions...not much to do there shopping wise and the excursions book early. And oh yeah, avoid goldfinger's at St. Maarten. My wife got a Tag watch there..and after the "this is the lowest price tag allows" spiel, found out it was $425 cheaper in the US...do your homework on purchases.
Comedian was always on at 11:30 or midnight....
The singing troupe was pathetic..absolutely terrible..almost left during their attempt at killing broadway tunes.
Gym was either too small or overcrowded...went there twice and left.
Spa was decent...like most other ships.
Padded pool chairs were a nice touch.
Glass blowing exhibit was pretty interesting, but a bit long.
Overall, not worth the money, and not worth giving this line another try.
