Silhouette on the Seas

Sail Date: March 2012
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Other

Just off the Silhouette and wanted to give some impressions and correct some earlier disinformation. Great ship, finest of the Celebrity fleet, the Captain is excellent and wonderful crew. Pick a cruise based on the ship not itinerary. Everyone has favorite islands but the difference is in the ship's age and condition. Not only the newest but constant cleaning and maintenance keeps it the finest on the seas. Very international crew and cruisers. Wonderful speaking French at the pool. Many Brits and Danes also abroad. Cruise Critic members packed the M&G and rocked the ship. Thank you Lenny and Mari for doing the impossible. The CC's you meet are the same you see in AH Riise, dining at the Lawn Club Grill and on the dancing under the stars.

The Lawn Club Grill-Deck 15 is not to be missed. Take the elevator up and book dinner sometime during your cruise. The best of the specialty restaurants with a show unlike any on the high seas. It is such a grand slam that the Reflection More will have a double sized Lawn Club. The matre d' Karol is excellent and keeps the show moving. Make your own pizza, pick your own meats to grill or do nothing and watch the chefs in action. If you go on Silhouette without at least stopping up here you missed something very unique. Better yet make reservations for dinner because it will sell out. We also went to Murano and Qsine which are a mixed bag. Service excellent at both. Murano has a French flair while Qsine is different just to be different. Try breakfast or lunch at the Aqua Spa-Deck 12 by Solarium to have a lighter break from the Ocean View Buffet.

The spa staff is great but there is no free steam room. For steam you must buy a pass to the Persian Room, with heated seats. This is packed on sea days. Ditto in the Apple I Lounge-Deck 6. Need a place for executives to work on the computer without classes and internet shutoffs. Not everyone is just checking email these days. Celebrity must respond better to business executive needs. Michael Pub is now smoke free. This may seem like a good thing until you enter the pool on Deck 12. No one goes to Michael's anymore and a cigar lounge with modern air scrubbers would clear the cloud by the pool. The Card Lounge-Deck 9 is packed with players all day. Bring your own tiles.

A lot of chat about the Main Dining Room. The matre d' and front of the house are excellent. It is hard to put out 12 great dinners that satisfy very international tastes. Escargot is gone and very al dente pasta has returned. There is always the standard menu/Lawn Club Grill when the MDR fails. Try not to change table assignments the first night. This becomes a logistical nightmare and a waste of 2 hours. The cabanas on Deck 15 facing the lawn and not ocean need a rethink. As unused as Micheal's Pub. Can't say enough positives about the crew. One came up to me and said she was sorry because of rain in San Juan. They want every cruise to be perfect. We have been with HAL for years but have now booked Celebrity for next Spring. Those on the fence should now book Silhouette in Europe. You won't regret it. Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Silhouette Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Veranda Continental Deck (6) 9247

Big cabin and bathroom. Balconies roomy for two. Most rooms have a balcony. Great European showers with separate pressure and temperature handles.

Port and Shore Excursions

Real surprise. Check out Sandals and ride horses on the white sands.

Stores were opened for cruisers on Sunday. Great port but heavy rain ruined the day. Check out the Polo store by the pier.

Go to Cruzans rum factory. Nothing in the port City. Take a tour and head north. Rain ruined the day.

Our favorite port. Go to the French side for the beaches and lunch. Then finish the day with the shopping on the Dutch side.

The best shopping in the Caribbean with St Martin.
