Ship Facts: Norwegian Spirit Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Norwegian Spirit Deck Plans
An honest opinion
We are first time cruisers and were traveling with 4 children, ages, 19, 14, 11 & 9. Total in our group was 24 people. Their are pros and cons of this cruise. Let's start with the pros. The food was good but we are easy to please, we especially liked the buffet, it always had a different variety and was better than the Garden and Windows dining. Garden and Windows dining was basically the same food but in different dining halls. We never ate in any of the other restaurants you had to pay for expect we did get sushi several times and it was good. The ship was very clean and the staff will do anything to make you happy. Our housekeeper, Jonathan, was the best. Although we had 4 people in our room, he somehow found a way to clean our room without falling over all the stuff we had in the room. He turned down our beds every night and left us a towel animals and always called us by our first name and wanted to know if he could get us anything.

The entertainment staff was ok, at times cheesy. The newlywed show was funny. The comedian was ok as well. The kids enjoyed the shows.

As far as the kids club went, my 9 year old said it was boring. At certain times they have themes and do entertainment with the kids but it was always starting at 10:30pm when after a long day at ports and dinner, it's time for bed.

Cons - The beds are terrible. My body ached every morning i woke up. There was a restaurant above our room so at 4am every morning someone would move stuff back and forth and wake you up. Bring your own pillow. The pillows are flat as a pancake. Our room always seemed warm compared to others in our group. Some in our group brought fans with them, i highly suggest this to keep the circulation flowing in the room since they are so tiny. Bathroom was a good size and always had hot water. Don't bring your own hairdryer, you can't use it anyway and their is one in every bathroom.

Next, something that really irritated me was every time you went outside you would get blasted by someone smoking. This ship does not have a designated area for smoking outside, people are able to smoke anywhere outside. The casino is the worst, sometimes your eyes will burn because of all the smoke.

So one night some in our group wanted to pull an all-nighter and party on the boat. First, you have to find a party. None of the bands at night or nightly entertainment couldn't attract more than 20 people. So the only thing that ever had any nightlife was the casino, again, if you can stand the smoke.

The drinks are good but very pricey. Beer will cost you $6.00-7.00 a beer plus 15% gratuity. Fruity drinks will cost you between $6-9. If you want it in a souvenir cup you have to pay $2.00 more and don't even get a price break if you get a refill.

PORTS: Costa Maya was great, go to Nohoch Kay, an all-inclusive day pass - $40.00 per person. Food is awesome. They even bring drinks to you in the ocean.

Belize - Cavetubing and Ziplining with Butts Up! Great group of guys, will do anything to make your trip a success.

Honduras - Our favorite stop, its a beautiful island. We rented a van and toured the island and ended up on a beach front drinking fruity drinks and eating some awesome food.

Cozumel - There was a lot of ships there this day but was able to get around town just fine. We swam with the dolphins at the Park. The park was a beautiful place, i strongly suggest to spend all day at the park and skip the shopping. Book through the park, they always have specials. We got 2 for 1 special when we booked. $50.00 per person.

We ported from New Orleans and parked in the parking garage across from the port. The shuttle is free and they are fast and friendly. Pre-pay with them before you go and you only pay $3.00 a day instead the $12.00 they want when you arrive.

DO NOT BOOK EXCURSIONS THROUGH THE CRUISE SHIP. Do them all before you go. You will pay twice as much.

I hope this helps. I read other reviews before i went and i agree with some of the other writers. It's a nice cruise ship and will cruise again but will try another cruise ship/line. The majority age on this cruise 50-70 year olds.
