Great way to explore Alaska!

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Ocean Victory

OK, please bear in mind that this was our first cruise ever. It was a birthday/anniversary gift to ourselves so we were open to paying a bit more. We were looking for a trip with a smaller number of passengers (Ocean Victory has a max of around 180) and a ship that could go to areas the big ships cannot. We also wanted to focus on seeing and learning about Alaska: scenery, wildlife, history, ...

I have wanted to do this cruise for a long time, sailing in all five Great Lakes. I have watched the two ships (currently Ocean Navigator and Ocean Voyager, formerly Victory I and II)) go through various owners. Each time someone bought them and started up, I thought next year I'm going to do this. And then they'd go out of business. I really hoped AQV would make a go of them. But the day before ...

The Big Muddy on the American Queen

American Queen Voyages are always fun and these 74 and 73 year olds traveled from Memphis to New Orleans. We traveled on the Countess on two occasions last year and that ship is nice. The American Queen, however, is a step above. The ship is larger and has more to enjoy than the smaller AQ vessels. We always choose the inside cabin on AQV because it is far less expensive and close to the Front ...

Very Disappointing Experience

We booked the Ocean Navigator 9-night Great Lakes cruise from Toronto to Chicago (Milwaukee, actually) scheduled to embark on Thursday, May 25th from Toronto. During Thursday afternoon check-in at the pre-cruise hotel in Toronto, we were told transfer to the ship would take us to the dock in Port Colborne, Canada, not the dock in Toronto. This was a result of the Ocean Navigator having ...

Cruising the five Great Lakes from Toronto to Chicago

My husband and I had never seen the Great Lakes other than a peek from a Chicago hotel window many years ago and decided this would be a great 80th birthday present for me. We have had great experience with American Queen on two previous cruises and looked forward to this one. Unfortunately, we were disappointed from the time we got off our plane in Toronto around 10:00 at night expecting to ...

We wanted a gentle cruise exploring the Great Lakes. That's exactly what we got. Staff couldn't do enough for you. Food good, stateroom clean, tours OK if you take all premium ones. What wasn't good: --There is no outside deck to walk on except a short semi-circle on top deck. --Entertainment was awful. Played same jazz music every night-even when requests were made for ...

The American Queen was unorganised, some of the staff did not know what to do, shortage of staff in dining room, so bad we used the buffet like lots of other guests . The ldea looks good but it's not up to standard, we fought hard for a full refund receiving £1000 only. I can't think of anything good to say. The most expensive mistake we have ever made as we have traveled the world with several ...

We had never traveled all of the Great Lakes and this sounded like a wonderful opportunity. Unfortunately our 7 p.m departure from Toronto didn't happen and no real explanation was ever given. The first report was that we would be skipping Niagra Falls which was not a popular choice. That was changed. However, we had to go to Cleveland and Detroit and were forced to miss Saulte Ste. Marie thus ...

Kentucky Derby Cruise 2023 on American Countess

May 2-9, 2023. (I am 70 years old, and my friend was 62 - if that matters) I choose this riverboat cruise for 3 reasons: Derby, Paddlewheel & Great Steamboat Race (3 Bucket Lists). A friend of mine went with me on the Countess which holds 245 passengers and a great small ship. The food was amazing, the itineraries were great - they even do their own Hop/On Hop Off Buses with local tour ...

I booked my first river cruise on the Lower Mississippi River for March 2023 back in May 2022 on the American Countess. I was concerned about what level of service to expect given the pandemic. I proceeded hoping that things would settle down back towards normal as the embarkation date approached. I am a manual wheelchair user and require an ADA cabin. I knew the number of accommodating cabins ...
