The Ship - Well, she's getting up there in her years. 2nd time on MS Maasdam. Still lovely however ceilings leak especially when it rained, air conditioning barely works in staterooms as well as public areas and water doesn't drain well ... Read more

Everything you wish a cruise won't be is what this cruise was. The ship itself older but refurbished. Needs to be put out of commission really. Ports advertised were not ports we visited. Nicaragua was cancelled never knew why, ... Read more

One thing to note: The average age of guests was probably close to 70, much older than other cruises we've been on. Even older than guests on our other HAL cruise. The day going through the Panama Canal was very interesting and ... Read more

First, let me sail that we had a wonderful time. Brazil and the Amazon was amazing. The ports were great. As always the crew was also terrific. We were just shocked by the myriad problems the ship itself had. There were numerous leaks, not ... Read more

We chose this trip for the ports which were great. Stayed in Rome 4 days before embarkation, and enjoyed that very much. Weather could have been better, rough seas that time of year. The ship was so, so, the cabin which we had upgraded to ... Read more

We usually sail on the smaller ships of Celebrity so this New England/Canada cruise on the HAL Maasdam cannot help but be a comparison. We took a late flight from Los Angeles to Boston. A HAL rep met us at the airport. Quite a wait until ... Read more

Maasdam was a good size for a first time cruiser. Enough choices for restaurants and lounges without being crowded. If I remember, the quoted number aboard was around 1160. Stateroom I-029 on Navigation Deck has more than enough space for ... Read more

First time booking with Holland America. Embarkation was a breeze. This is a smaller ship so getting around within the ship was fairly quick and easy. They did a good job of explaining and offering shore excursions for a range of taste. ... Read more
