Jewel is a Jewel

Review for a Caribbean - Southern Cruise on Jewel of the Seas

This was one of the best cruises we have taken. We have done 18 with RCCL and loved this one. Staff entertainment and food outstanding. Ports of call great. We only had one small issue and that was the Snorkeling in Barbados. We did not see any turtles and because of ruff water we did not get to go to the beach but that was not RCCL fault. We go again, in a heart beat. One other thing was the ...

First time Royal Cruiser, Usually on NCL

I typically do do solo cruises because it's more relaxing being on my own schedule and NCL usually has solo discounts. Since I was looking for a cruise with friends I booked on Royal for the first time and was surprised how similar they were. There were a some differences though which I will highlight below. Centrum: Usually this central lobby area is a quiet little place with few people ...

Was a good place to meet with the family at breakfast, lunch and dinner. We were able to visit six ports together and to swim in the ocean. being on board the family was able to spend lots of time together. We enjoyed the freedom to be at breakfast lunch and dinner together and to turn in to our rooms when we feel like it. It was great to go to meal that was ready prepared and to sleep in our ...

Lets start with excursions....they are expensive when booked via Royal. We and many others found great island tours in the local on shore centers for a fraction of the price of booking on line or on ship. Just make sure you ask what kind of vehicle, does it have A/C, where do we go, how long does the tour take and how much. I was the deal maker and they always accepted my lower offer and paid ...

Pretty Darn Good, Considering

This was our fourth Royal Caribbean cruise in the past two years. Considering the changes and uncertainties to our trip due to the damage that the recent hurricanes did to the Caribbean, including three islands we were scheduled to visit and Puerto Rico, this was a pretty great cruise, overall. We flew in on the day of the cruise's departure, which was a first for us but necessary since booking ...

We booked this cruise in early summer because we had done it in February and loved it. Unfortunately it was not what we remembered. It started with the hurricanes. The prices dropped considerably (over $800 pp to below $250 pp for balcony). We called Royal and they upgraded us to a junior suite. Though the room was nice I don't think it made up for the incredible drop in price. Also the ...

My sisters chose the cruise and made all the arrangements. An excellent choice of which, we plan to repeate in the near future. I would recommend this type of holiday and this cruise ship in particular to the rest of my friends and family. I loved the freedom to move around, to eat from the variety of scrumptious choices offered and the cleanness of the eating areas. i felt safe and was ...

Special Diet needs? Don't take Royal!

Took Jewel of the Seas on 7 night Southern Caribbean. 1. I have lactose and gluten intolerance. I understand it is very limited diet and difficult to meet my needs, so dinners had to be pre-order 24 hrs in advance. I was fine with that. Unfortunately, for entire week, as side dishes, I was served baked potatoes, steamed broccoli and carrots. In the end of the cruise I was very tired of baked ...

Outdated Ship, Poor Food, Mediocre Staff

I went on a 7-night Caribbean cruise aboard the Jewel of the Seas over Thanksgiving. There were 7 of us total, in 4 separate staterooms. Food: All of us had similar experiences with the food - It was all mediocre and lacked variety. Breakfast was the same-ol thing every day, and they even ran out of bacon and didn't replace it on the 1st morning! My mom is Gluten & Dairy Free, and while they ...

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary and because the dates worked with what we needed. Price was within our budget. Overall, we were disappointed with Jewel of the Seas. We wondered if the crew was either new, or jaded. It was hard to tell. The service was not like what we have experienced before. The food quality in the Main Dining Room was poor, as was the service. Mistakes were made ...
