Just finished a week long Alaskan cruise from Seattle onboard the Westerdam. The ship and service were outstanding. Something we have come to expect from sailing with Holland America. All aspects of the cruise were great. Even the damp weather in a few of the ports didn't put a damper (no pun intended) on our experience.
Everything went smoothly from the embarkation to our final disembarkation. ...
Let me start with this trip was a 71st birthday celebration for my husband. A cruise to Alaska has been on our bucket list for some time now. So here’s the good, bad and ugly about our Holland America trip to Alaska last week aboard the Westedam. The good – the Pinnacle restaurant was fantastic! The food, service and personnel were all outstanding! The rooms were quite spacious with lots of ...
We wanted a low-key, mid-sized cruise experience. Overall, it was very relaxing, and the mostly Indonesian crew made it a very pleasant experience. The Lido Market casual dining food was sometimes subpar, the entertainment choices we liked were usually very late in the evening for us, and the menu in the Pinnacle Grill was just okay. Reservation confirmation was spotty: we were advised that we'd ...
After much research I chose Holland America for my Alaskan cruise. I certainly was not disappointed. Excellent crew, entertainment, food and facilities. The Westerdam was just the right size, wanted to stay away from the big ships. The atmosphere was certainly what I was looking for. Not a big "party" ship. I am a mature female doing a solo cruise. Alaska was breathtaking!! The programs ...
This was our first cruise and it was everything we dreamed it could be. The staff on the ship were awesome. The food yummy. The entertainment top rate. We loved everything about it. We had a verandah cabin and it was great. We definitely will go on Holland again. We got our luggage delivered to our room earlier than they had promised. We had the ship handle all disembarkation arrangements ...
My husband and I, along with another couple, were looking for an affordable Alaskan Cruise that we could book at last minute, and this particular seven day cruise fit a date that worked for all of us. Nothing went terribly wrong, however the ship, and everything we experienced on the ship, was all very average.
First of all, the ship itself is outdated. There was zero "wow" factor. The Atrium ...
My wife and I always wanted to go on an Alaskan Cruise, after looking at available dates, prices and reviews we selected Holland America, leaving out of Seattle.
I have read a lot of reviews here that noted the poor condition of the Westerdam, that it is worn and needs repair. This is only our third cruise, so maybe we aren't experienced enough but we thought the ship was fine. It wasn't ...
This Ship takes the Glacier Bay Park Tour. With it being first tour to Alaska, wanted to see the national park. Overall, the Cruise was very good. Embarkation and disembarking were smoothly run and most staff eager to make this happen. The food portions in the main dining room were small but you could get multiple items and we could tell the staff put efforts into presentation of the food ...
We chose this cruise to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Admittedly, we're neophytes to this mode of transportation-entertainment. Our only other cruising experience had come as many years earlier - a wedding gift from my mom. Southeast Alaska is spectacularly beautiful, isolated and arguably best visited by ship. We were excited to go but our expectations proved unrealistic.
Our ...
I was in charge of researching the cruise for everyone. The fact that Holland America's website was difficult to use and uninformative on specifics made it very tough. Here is some of the info I needed:
The adults had adjoining balcony cabins at the very end of the ship. Loved the views (take binoculars). There are panels separating the balconies. The steward can lock open the end panel so ...
