Is Big and New Better? Verdict is still out....

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Koningsdam

After sailing numerous Holland American ships, I was anxious to experience the new Koningsdam. There are many things I love about this ship and things I miss when compared to their smaller ships. Highlights: The cabin was excellent, especially the shower and the larger flat screen TV. (My only complaint here was the air quality and ability to control the temperature adequately. For some ...

Splendid ship, good experience

I chose it as a reasonably priced repositioning cruise that suited my other travel plans for the return from Europe. Cruise: HAL Koningsdam, Civitavecchia-Fort Lauderdale 10/3/2017, Cabin 8182 Up front—I’m not a typical cruise passenger, sorry to disappoint in my reporting: Mine was a solo trip; I’m not a “fine-dining foodie” so I only ate in Lido and Dutch Café; I drank no alcohol; not a ...

We chose this cruise because of the timing and itinerary. Like being able to leave from Rome -- gives us plenty of time in Italy prior to the cruise. We found first day boarding to be efficient. Did not keep people waiting a long time prior to boarding. Disembarking was handled well on the ship with people being able to wait in their rooms until their designated departure time, seemed to ...

Calmest Atlantic Crossing Ever

Background information: We’re HAL fans and we chose Konigsdam because it was going from Rome to Florida at the end of our Italian vacation and it was an opportunity to try the largest HAL ship. Ship information: Didn’t feel crowded except in a couple areas in the Lido (healthy foods area – nuts, grains, beans, etc for breakfast); ice cream lines; a couple shows (3 times a night for 45 vice 60 ...

Very noisy...had to change cabin due to noise from BB King lounge

• Extreme and excessive noise above and around BB King Lounge. We couldn’t get to sleep until after midnight as the noise, specifically the base instruments’ reverberations, was very loud. This was a topic of several dinner conversations with numerous attendees complaining openly and bitterly. We finally had to change rooms. • The usual classical piano/string music venues, e.g., Queen’s ...

An Excellent Cruise!

Koningsdam is the newest and largest ship of the HA fleet. We were aboard 31 nights sailing from Amsterdam to Ft Lauderdale. I greatly enjoyed Koningsdam. HA has kept much of its traditional wood trim but decor features colorful, attractive and somewhat eclectic furnishings throughout. The bright, modern and airy appearance of the Dining Room was a most welcome change for me. Our verandah ...

We are seniors and this cruise was tailored for us The ship is a bit old, but is laid out well . I walk a lot and like the full promenade deck. Cabin (7028) has a very good design. Liked the curtain between the bed and bath as wife is late sleeper. Shower is nice and large but curtain is pesky as always. We were not bothered by motion even though seas we a bit high a few days( neither ...

Not impressed, very disappointed with HAL, Europe fabulous

We chose this cruise for the itinerary which was almost the only good part. It was feezing onboard through the entire cruise. Some guests were taking blankets with them to sit anywhere including inside. Dining room was very uncomfortably cold. Staterooms were also chilly even with turning heat up. My bed was horrible and slanted down to the floor so much that I needed a seatbelt to stay in. The ...

Fabulous cruise despite being on an older dated cruise ship

Great ports on the Trans-Atlantic Crossing and an amazing staff at Holland America's Zuiderdam made the cruise memorable. Although the cabin was old and dated, with a tv screen that was barely readable, the crew and the planned activities more than made up for any disappointment. The only negative was the on-staff singers and dancers who more reminded me of a high school talent show, than a ...

Good food, and staff Many times we take this compagny, for the food in first. This cruise was a little longer, and the weather very bad We dont stop in Horta, to much wind Cherbourg rainning Zebbrugge cold, and Amsterdam too So it s like that For the entertainment, not very beautiful, just violin and singers, but to much speaking, and for us it s difficult to understand ...
