We just got back from our amazing 7 day Northbound Alaskan cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam. We were very pleased with the cruise. We took our trip with a group of 6. It was my wife and I, my brother and his wife, and my brother-in-law and his daughter. We are all in our 50's except my BIL's daughter. My wife and I stayed in a Verandah on deck 8. This is my wife and I's 5th overall cruise and first ...
Four of us just completed our cruise with Denali and other sites included. The logistics for this company are off the charts. Everything was so easy and the communication was exceptional. This is our 3rd cruise and by far the best. We spent a couple of days in Vancouver before and that was a wonderful city and very much enjoyed. The initial on-boarding was smooth. The departure and the ...
My husband and I had cruised Alaska in 2019. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to go again, but to do a land/sea tour. Holland American seem to have the best reputation for this. The land tour was great. But Holland America should be ashamed to put their guest in one of their motels, The Westmart in Anchorage that they use for their one night stay was dirty. The hotel was in need of updating ...
The HA Koningsdam was recommended by a frequent HA cruiser. It lived up to the recommendation in every respect. Well run ship. No surprises. The ship had 2700 passengers however we did not feel crowded. Vista suite room recommended. Disembarkation was flawless. Tamarind food was 100%+ but all of the food was good to great. Dutch cafe was a highlight for great drip coffee.
Negatives - ...
Went on the Canada 7 night cruise out of Montréal to Boston. Took our family of 4 (kids age 8 and 10), and brother and wife. I had done research and knew this was not a “in your face” entertainment cruise but was laid back sailing on a smaller ship with plenty of room to spare. There is no band by the pool and the entertainment on the world stage is pretty … meh.
The cabins were standard size, ...
We chose this cruise to celebrate my wife's birthday. 2 weeks before the cruise we were contacted by HAL and offered an upgrade to a Neptune Suite! We took them up on their offer and paid an additional $2138 bringing our total cost with air to $9695.56. The problems started weeks before the cruise as the airline tickets (booked through HAL) kept changing and we could not confirm our seats. After ...
We (my husband and I, our daughter and son-in-law) chose this Mediterranean cruise for the interesting port stops in Italy, Greece and Malta. We mainly used private tours or explored on our own; the only ship-sponsored excursion we did was to Delos, off the island of Mikonos. The Delos excursion was run efficiently and we enjoyed the knowledgeable guide who spoke excellent English. It was ...
There was limited entertainment to other cruises I was on. Shortly before the departure I checked the ship's website to find out about the ship's entertainment and saw there were live music concerts at the "Lincoln" stage as well as BBC Nature Programs. Both these were actually false advertisement -the ship had neither.
The entertainment that was available was limited to shows on the main ...
Good food. We've cruised at least eight times prior on other cruise lines. This was our first experience with Holland America Line, and unfortunately, we booked for 24 days - 2 continuous cruises back to back in the Mediterranean. Before booking with HAL, we thoroughly researched the boat amenities and called to speak with HAL customer service to verify the details. Club HAL for kid's was a major ...
We booked the cruise through a travel agent. The dates fitted with our trip of a lifetime to Canada and Alaska. We saw photos of the ship before we travelled, but the ship didn’t look how we expected at all! I saw the ship in Vancouver next to the Seven Seas Explorer. It looks like a car ferry outside and inside! I was so disappointed! The ship is very tired and dated and nothing like the ...
