Cruising the Canaries - but perhaps too late in the year?

Review for a Canary Islands Cruise on Grand Princess

We took advantage of a 'stay and park' package at a Holiday Inn in Southampton to allow us to drive 270 miles to the port the day before, which was a good decision. The room was fine and a meal there (too tired to venture further) was satisfactory, if a bit pricey. This package included a taxi to the docks, and embarkation was fairly efficient, if a little slow because of delays in the security ...

Background Information: I purchased this tour about a year in advance. Hotel: I made my own plane reservations but reserved the Chancery Court Hotel through Princess. They were to pick me up at the airport but that never happened. Eventually I got to the hotel & I can't say enough about it. Such luxury I was not used to & it was centrally located. We chose this cruise as we had not been to any of the Canary Islands before or to Lisbon. We had also not sailed from Southampton. We chose this cruise in preference to the April sailing because it also visited Lisbon in addition to the Canary Islands. Our transport to the Grand Princess, using Eavesway Travel, albeit at our own expense, was flawless and efficient. We can highly recommend this ...

This was our second Princess cruise and fourth over all. Food, Service and Entertainment was up to the usual cruise standards so I won't go into detail on these aspects of the cruise. Main points that I would like to make to assist readers are: Embarkation at Southampton was appalling - almost two hours to get aboard due to a late start to boarding (not until 12.30) and very slow security ...

Grand losing her luster? We did back to back sailings on the Grand in April/May -- an 11 day Canary Islands and a 17 day Mediterranean. This review covers the Canary Islands cruise. This was our 55th cruise on Princess, and 12th on the Grand. Overall it was a fairly good cruise but we sadly concluded the Grand isn't as grand as she used to be. Embarkation We used Princess Ezair ...
