We drove to Long Beach from San Francisco the day before embarkation and stayed at Hotel Current in Long Beach with a "snooze & cruise" room. We cruised out of Fort Lauderdale on 12/22/18 for our Christmas cruise. We flew in a few days early and stayed at the Embassy Suites (17th Street). I knew the ship was older, refurbished, when booking but it was the itinerary that was most attractive--Southern Carib, 8 days. Shocked to find only 1 standard US elec outlet in the stateroom. All other elec outlets were European style. The ship must have been built for a different market and moved to North America later. So bring a converter!

Our family of three decided to book Carnival because of the food quality: we've been a lot more active, eating healthier, and didn't want to stop doing that. We felt it would be easier on Carnival than on some of the higher end cruise lines to not eat rich foods at the big meals since it's not usually quite as good. We also liked the idea of Carnival's younger, more active atmosphere.

I went on my first cruise, December of 2018, it was the Carnival Paradise out of Tampa. I highly recommend NOT taking this ship for a cruise - service was great, 90% of the crew members were terrific, but the food, OMG, in my opinion it's low quality and not enjoyable to eat, and every meal I felt like we were just herded through the buffet area like cattle.
