7102: OBSTRUCTED
We were in an obstructed view cabin, 7102, with a floor to ceiling window behind our bed. There was no shelf behind the bed so we could not prop our pillows up too much or they would fall into the window space behind the bed. The large window has almost a full view as only the back end of a lifeboat was visible. Several times during the cruise (daytimes) I noticed workmen walking about the little cat walk right outside out window, and although they were never looking in our window, we had to be careful about prancing around in the buff. On the last afternoon they washed the outside of the window.
The cabin was small and felt smaller because of the bunk beds hanging on both sides on the long walls. We had to watch we didnt hit our heads when getting OOB in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. The obstructed cabin 7100 next door didnt have as good of a view as ours, but at least the bed was arranged on the left long wall and had a tiny sofa bed next to it on the window side. We missed having somewhere to sit other than on the bed or the desk chair or a little round stool. The bed itself had some sag in it, and the pillows were not great. I packed my own oldest down pillow which helped me and then I just left it there after the cruise.
The bathroom was the standard ship bathroom but the shower had the best shower curtain with stiff rods in it making it stay in place.
The cabin was quiet. We never heard anyone on either side of us or above us.
We were in a great location near the stairs and elevators, and the only time we heard hall noise was a little around 9-10 PM at night.

Our room has a closet on one side at the entrance - hangers and some open shelves at the end and at the other end a ladder. The ladder is to get into the upper bunks - we have a room for four. The disadvantage of this is that my grandson put something under the bed and then stood up quickly and hit his head on the corner of the upper bunk really hard and almost knocked himself out. He had a lump on his head and a bad headache from it.
Then there is the TV area which has a top shelf where the bedspreads are kept. Then the next level is a small fridge and the TV. (which has ESPN, CNN, Fox News, and TNT) Then is a shelf with the ice bucket. Then there are two deep drawers and some shelves where we are keeping the beach towels. At the foot of that bed there is a stool.
Twin beds each have their own little porthole shaped reading light, and a little table - just a table - no shelves or drawers. Between them is a window which looks out on the mechanism to launch the lifeboats, and we can see part of the promenade deck. When we tender, the crew comes up the ladder outside our window to access the lifeboat/tender.
On the other side from the TV is the desk/vanity with a mirror and hairdryer, two deep drawers, and the plugs. Above this is the cabinet with the safe and a shelf above that.
The bathroom has a shower, sink, small medicine cabinet behind a mirror, and a toilet. There appear to be two trash bins made of metal and recessed into the shelf under the sink and there's also a metal holder for a container for sharps. The shower curtains had batten rods the full length of the curtain from each hanger, so the curtain hangs straight and does not blow in and stick to you. There was a cord to hang wet things in the shower. It did not retract like it was meant to, but it still worked to hang things on.
I was trying to figure out how to work the shower. I did not see that the temperature control was on the side, and I was only turning the water pressure knob, when the hand held shower head came off the stand and sprayed all around - which since I was standing half out of the shower and had the bathroom door open also, that meant that the bathroom mirror and the closet doors also got some spray. Anyway I had a nice shower when I finally got the temperature turned down.
One major annoyance was that there was absolutely NO WAY to get the announcements in the cabin. You either had to keep your cabin door open or go open the cabin door to hear them. Even the important announcements like the lifeboat drill - no way to hear them. So I missed the announcements about the lava flows when we went around south of the Big Island.

This was the best Obstructed Ocean View room (along with 7552 and 7556) as the life boat in front of our window was smaller than the others and set back away from the window thus giving us a decent view. Read entire member review. |

Our cabin was horrible. From the very onset in working with a cruise line agent we were told we would be given a room that would accomodate three adults. Meaning a room with at least 2 fold out "bunk style" beds from the wall. Instead we were given a room that was tiny with a fold out couch that butted up next to the 2nd bed and at the foot butted up against the small desk area in the room. So I literally would have to crawl over the person in the bed next to me if I wanted to go to the rest room or wherever. I can't imagine the entire ship was sold out but in any case when we took our problem to the front desk - they were indifferent and down right arrogant. Not to mention the ship is old and not "modernized" at all. Read entire member review. |

The futon for our daughter is only about 5 feet long when set up. She is 5'6". Not tall but really a cot would have been better.
Obstructed view cabin. That is fine, but we did not realize that there was a walkway right outside the window and thus we had men walking by at add times. Perhaps a warning that this may occur. Read entire member review. |

Room has bunkbeds which makes it seem narrow. Closet is smaller than most as there are 4 lifejackets at storage for bunkbed hardware. On the plus side it is classified as a obstructed view cabin although there is only an obstruction when looking aft, clear view straight ahead ad forward. Read entire member review. |

Clean but smaller than the normal outside cabin. The effort to open and close the door was close to excessive. My girlfriend had to fight to open and close it (I don't know how an older, smaller would cope with the effort.) Closet space was adequate, but shelves and drawers helped with storage. Bathroom was small but adequate for one person at a time (no sharing!). The design was attractive and functional. Appreciated the 3 electrical outlets in the main cabin. Television was smaller old CRT-style and had a very limited choice of programming (we were on the cruise during the Super Bowl, and they didn't even have the Super Bowl on the television!) Location was fairly convenient (mid-aft Deck 7). One note: One of the tenders used for tendering passengers at the Kona stop is taken from its davits right outside your window early in the morning. It might startle people who aren't don't know this could happen. Read entire member review. |

Hallways are not too noisy. The view outside is obstructed, of course, but beware that you can smell a lot of the exhaust fumes from the tenders when they are used at one of the ports.
Size of room is standard (small), but perhaps a bit more crowded than on other ships.

The Cabin was fine, average. But we were not expecting much. For us, we were never there really. The most memorable thing I can say about it is our cabin steward left us the most bizarre towel animals I have ever seen. Most of them were unidentifiable. Read entire member review. |

cabin 7134, quiet, crowded with three people, limited shelf space. When fold-out couch was extended, the window and safe and some cupboards were cut off. We were still happy with it. Read entire member review. |

Lots of people complain about the size of the cabins on this ship, but we weren't bothered at all. Cleanliness, however, was another issue. Read entire member review. |
