Golden Princess -- Alaska
One of the reasons my wife & I have attained the "Elite" level with Princess is that they make it worth the effort. From easy embarkation to the debarkation exercise, things just come together. The crew of the Golden Princess and the ship were prepared for our arrival, exactly as designed by the company.
At well over 100,000 tons gross and a capability of crew & passengers totaling 4,100 the Golden Princess makes cruising enjoyable. She was delivered to the company April 27th, 2001 but today some eleven years later, she shows no sign of aging. Her condition and appearance speak well for the maintenance staff and the company's attention to detail. This date, July28th 2012, Captain Vincenzo Lubrano commanded our vessel sailing out of Seattle, WA with ports of call in Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, AK and Victoria, British Columbia including sightseeing through Tracy Arm Fjord, AK. Capitan Lubrano was ably assisted by various crew members aboard the Golden Princess and they all performed their jobs admirably.
On a personal level: Our Headwaiter Romeo in the Donatello dining-room ensured our every culinary desire was available at meal time regardless of the hour. Our table side servers, Evan and his assistant Edguardo took our meal requests often offering alternative suggestions thus increasing our dining experiences. Romeo visited our table frequently inquiring as to our meal satisfaction. Their attitude and courtesies to not just us but other dinners will long be remembered. Our room (P307) was a bit smaller than on any of our previous cruises yet was comfortable enough for this short cruise. Centrally located to the foyer and elevators but just distant enough there was very little noise. What the room lacked in size was more than offset by being able to walk to & from ship's activities through the art gallery.
Allan, our room steward was quite a remarkable gentleman. He managed to anticipate all of our needs including an extension cord forgotten in my haste to pack for the trip and bath toiletries that were never empty. Ice, water and beverages were replenished without having to ask for them. The room was made while we were at breakfast and prepared nightly before we retired from our day's adventures. The most intriguing aspect of good customer relationships are the little nuances- daily greetings, entreaties for enjoying the day, wishing a safe return, inquiring about the day's events but most of all- knowing the customer by name. Allan greeted us by name, without fail, on every occasion!
We have had the good fortune to cruise with memorable Princess personnel and even find those employees on other ships. Each time we see former Princess staff on a new ship it is time to catch up on what happened to whom and how the children (grandchildren in some cases) are doing. As a person "moving-through-time" these times are good and Princess will continue to see my business.
