Everyone is looking for the deal of the century. So how do you choose the one that’s right for you? Check the Lido Deck each week to get the scoop on our favorite deals — then grab the phone and pack your bags.
THE DEAL: Online Vacation Center is offering a 14-night transatlantic cruise onboard Celebrity Equinox, sailing from Barcelona to Fort Lauderdale on October 27, 2014. Prices start from $2,499 per person, for an inside cabin. Cruise fare includes an additional five nights pre-cruise hotel stay in two European cities, as well as roundtrip airfare.
WHAT WE LOVE: The value is tremendous in this cruise package. Not only are you getting a two-week Celebrity cruise out of the fare, but the deal includes a three-night hotel stay in Dublin and a two-night pre-cruise hotel stay in Barcelona, as well as roundtrip airfare. With the base fare of $2,499 per person, everything is included for a 19-night vacation that begins in Ireland, passes through Spain and the Canary Islands, and ending in Florida. Upgrades are not much more, at a rate of $2,699 per person for an outside cabin, and $2,849 per person for a balcony cabin. Beat the heat and the crowds of summer by sailing in the fall.
WHAT GIVES US PAUSE: Mother Nature can always throw a wrench in the best-laid plans, so be advised that this cruise extends through hurricane season (November). While temperatures should be mild and enjoyable in the Canary Islands, your stay in Dublin is likely to be cool and rainy. Note that All Saints’ Day (November 1) is recognized in Lanzarote, where you will be in port that day, and not all shops may be open. Your first week sailing is port-intensive, but the last leg is seven days straight on the open sea. If the idea of that much on-ship time makes you antsy, reconsider booking a transatlantic sailing.
