April 25, 2014 | By | 4 Comments

Every Thursday at 3 p.m. (Eastern), Cruise Critic Live! takes a look at all the things to love about cruising, from favorite destinations to amazing dining experiences to the latest and greatest new ships on the oceans and rivers. We also welcome outside experts including cruise line CEOs and newsmakers.
Next week, we’ll be diving into the sometimes confusing waters of onboard communications. Should you just lock up your smart phone or tablet in your cabin safe or can you use it without breaking the bank? From exploring all your at-sea Internet options to finding inexpensive ways to stay in touch with friends and family onboard, our fee-ducking editors will share their experiences and best practice tips. Don’t forget to bookmark the page.
Can’t make the chat on Thursday, May 1 at 3 p.m.? Please feel free to submit questions ahead of time, and we’ll make sure to get your answers. The chat will be archived, and available, after it winds up.

I recently returned from a 17 day South Pacific cruise on Oceania’s Marina where free internet was included. What a difference that made with staying in touch as well as researching upcoming ports and even booking excursions while on board.

Wife and I will be doing B2B on Allure in 3 weeks. We would like to text back and forth as a way to stay in touch on the ship. How would that work? Is there a way to do it without being charged?

I live in Australia, what time is this ?
wi fi has to be the best way to keep in touch. Ships
internal wifi for on board communication would greatly assist finding companions and offer opportunity for small groups with particular interests to meet. When will 5his ever happen?

I want to know how I can be assured my iphone’s (4S)mapping features will be available on our baltic cruise in August. I just think it would be great to be able to put in destinations and be able to use the walking feature to get there. Is this possible? Do I have to do something special with my service provider before I leave?

I would also like to be able to email back to the states and actually make calls if necessary.
