Cruise Critic Live: Chat with Viking River Cruises from Bordeaux

March 14, 2014 | By | 3 Comments

Join Cruise Critic Live! on a special date – Wednesday, March 19 – at 4 p.m. Eastern (which translates to 8 p.m. in the UK, very very early on Thursday in Sydney, and 1 p.m. on America’s West Coast) – as we chat with Viking River Cruises’ Joost Ouendag.
As Viking’s vice president of product marketing, the Netherlands-born Joost (pronounced Yost) is responsible for planning new itineraries and creating ever more innovative shore outings. He’s a great resource for any river cruising questions: The overall experience, ports of call or information about shipboard features and amenities while traveling in Europe, Russia and Asia.
He’ll be joined by Cruise Critic Editor in Chief Carolyn Spencer Brown, who has sailed on 20-plus river cruises, on lines that include Uniworld, Avalon, Tauck, Scenic, A-Rosa, AmaWaterways and APT, as well as Viking, of course. Both will be onboard one of Viking River’s newest ships – Viking Heimdal, while on the line’s maiden Bordeaux voyage.
Can’t make the chat on Wednesday, March 19 at 4 p.m.? Please feel free to submit questions ahead of time, and we’ll make sure to get your answers. The chat will be archived, and available, after it winds up.

With the rapid growth of river cruising and the introduction of new ships, is there any concern with growing congestion on the waterways and the ports. How is the rapid growth being managed to negate river/port congestion.

Hi, Jeff, this is a great question for Joost — feel free to wander over to the chat and post it now if you’d like.

In the meantime, it’s something all the lines are keeping an eye on, and some are staggering departure dates to avoid conflicting with too many other ships and lines. Still, I think it’s something that could potentially become an issue….
