Steal of the Week: 24-Nt. Hawaii/Australia Cruise from $3,499

March 13, 2014 | By | No Comments

Everyone is looking for the deal of the century. So how do you choose the one that’s right for you? Check the Lido Deck each week to get the scoop on our favorite deals — then grab the phone and pack your bags.
THE DEAL: Online Vacation Center is offering 24 nights onboard Celebrity Century sailing from San Francisco to Sydney on September 16, 2014. Prices start from $3,499 per person for an inside cabin and include a three-night post-cruise hotel stay in Sydney and free roundtrip airfare.

WHAT WE LOVE: Say so long to Celebrity Century before it’s retired at the end of this season. Your vacation package — flight, cruise and hotel — will cost just $146 per person, per night to sail on a paradisiacal journey from California to Hawaii, on to French Polynesia and Fiji, then New Caledonia and finally, Australia. If sailing along that itinerary in mild September isn’t enough of an appeal, stay on in Sydney to enjoy the city before heading home on your included flight. Ship to hotel and hotel to airport transfers are also included. A $100 onboard credit will be added to spend during your sea days on Century. This is a great way to give a trusted ship the final farewell.
WHAT GIVES US PAUSE: Needless to say, Celebrity Century is an older ship on its last leg (the vessel originally launched in 1995). There are plenty of sea days, so if a long sailing minus all the glitz of newer and bigger ships doesn’t appeal to you, reconsider your choice. Although Century has been updated, it stands apart from other ships in the line; don’t base your choice on past experience with Celebrity’s other ships. While there are facilities for children, keep in mind the demographic leans older (40 to 60, on average).
