Flag Collecting in the Canary Islands

January 21, 2014 | By | 1 Comment

Retired professor cboyle and her husband scour the world for new flags (and wines!)  – so when the couple saw a two-week cruise to the Canary Islands offered on Crown Princess, the native New Orleanians jumped at the chance to add to their collection. Paired with a transatlantic and enhanced by a few days beforehand in London, their back-to-back cruise lasted 26 days in total.
The intrepid travelers rented cars and took private tours arranged through their Cruise Critic roll call to hit UNESCO landmarks such as the Sintra Hills in Portugal and Teide National Park in the Canary Islands. The oenophiles also made time to hit specific wineries in Geria and Madeira, buying a few bottles to bring home.
Their enjoyment continued onboard, where they participated in the Culinary Show, attended port lectures and evening entertainment (a West End singer proved to be a favorite), and picked up some UK jokes (apparently it rains a lot in Wales).  Witnessing a partial solar eclipse during a sea day made the trip even more memorable.
Read cboyle’s full review for more details, including specifics about their port stops in Galicia, Spain and Lisbon, Portugal. For their efforts, cboyle and four other Reviewers of the Week — kerstin_K, NellieVA, MarineDive, and chirk — receive Cruise Critic logo items.

Over the years I have been collecting hat pins from everywhere I’ve traveled. I started wearing then on a hat until I noticed all the headaches I had. So I now wear them on a denim vest.
