Steal of the Week: Alaska from $519, Free SXC + OBC

January 9, 2014 | By | No Comments

Everyone is looking for the deal of the century. So how do you choose the one that’s right for you? Check the Lido Deck each week to get the scoop on our favorite deals — then grab the phone and pack your bags.
THE DEAL: Avoya Travel is offering a seven-night Alaska cruise onboard Royal Caribbean’s Rhapsody of the Seas sailing from Vancouver to Seattle on May 16, 2014. Prices start from $519 per person and include onboard credit and a free shore excursion.

WHAT WE LOVE: Alaska cruise season is approaching and this deal entices with both low rates and bonuses. During prime sailing season, Royal Caribbean is offering a weeklong cruise from just $74 per person, per night, to Juneau, Skagway, Tracy Arm Fjord and Ketchikan, through the Inside Passage. In addition, Avoya Travel is offering a free shore excursion to sweeten the deal. Rhapsody is a great ship for families and recently refurbished  to include Oasis-class amenities.
WHAT GIVES US PAUSE: Alaska deals dropped to dirt-cheap prices last year, and so waiting until the last minute might shave off a few more dollars, but wave season bonuses and add-ons may not last until then. Also, if you’re looking to upgrade, a balcony is more than twice the price of an inside cabin — a cool $1,309.
