We were overwhelmed by the number of entries in our December 30 caption contest – more than 380 Cruise Critic readers submitted responses on the blog (and another 478 on Facebook, although those were not eligible to win).
A few common themes emerged, with many taking a family approach to the Silver Cloud and Celebrity Millennium. Some of the more popular captions: “Wait until you grow up!” “Eat your vegetables and you can grow as big as Daddy, “Are you my mother?” “Why does lil’ sis always have to come along?” My personal favorite within this genre came from reader Margery Reisfeld, who wrote: “Your Mom is late. I KNEW we shouldn’t have let her shop in St. Thomas!”
Other offerings made sly reference to the obvious differences, aka, “bigger is better,” “it’s not the size, it’s the motion of the ocean,” “I’m not fat, I’m big-boned” and such. I really liked the sentiment of “There are big ships and small ships but the best ships are the friendships we make while sailing!” It almost won – until a co-worker pointed out that she had seen it on a greeting card.
But overall, the Cruise Critic gift pack prize goes to Heather Thomas for this gem: “Next time, read the label… “Dry Clean Only.”
Thanks, everyone, for playing. We enjoyed doing this so much that we’re going to make it a regular Lido Deck feature. Look for a new photo on Friday.
