This Week’s Feedback:
“We are sailing on the Nieuw Amsterdam in April next year on a 24-day cruise in the Mediterranean. Is there any charge for doing our laundry?
We’re working on compiling a list of laundry services and charges across all major cruise lines — but for now, we can direct these readers to the boards, where avid cruisers seem to have an answer for every question. The threads we found indicate that members sailing in 2010 found no self-serve laundry services onboard Nieuw Amsterdam. Therefore, there would be a fee for laundry, pressing and dry-cleaning packages. To cross-reference this, we checked out Holland America’s website and found the definitive answer in their Planning & Advice section: Yes, there is a fee. Self-service launderettes are available, for a nominal charge on select ships, but not Nieuw Amsterdam.
Typically, all major cruise ships offer laundry and pressing by ship staff for a fee (via those laundry bags you’ll find in your cabin closets). Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises are two lines that don’t offer self-serve laundry. A lot of the luxury lines provide washers and dryers for self-use, especially those with longer itineraries.
