Steal of the Week: 2014 Viking Christmas Markets from $1,750

December 12, 2013 | By | No Comments

Everyone is looking for the deal of the century. So how do you choose the one that’s right for you? Check the Lido Deck each week to get the scoop on our favorite deals — then grab the phone and pack your bags.
THE DEAL: Viking River Cruises is offering a seven-night Europe river cruise onboard one of their many longships, sailing from Budapest or Nuremburg in November 2014. (Just in time for the famed Christmas markets.) Prices start from $1,756 per person for a standard cabin.

WHAT WE LOVE: Who does Christmas better than Europe? If you can’t get there this season, plan for the next with added incentive: Viking’s current early booking bonus for 2014 river cruises (including $400 off of airfare, per person) ends on December 18. This could make the perfect gift for this year’s holiday and a fun way to look forward to the next. Departures begin the day after Thanksgiving (November 28) for the lowest price of $1,756, per person. Keep in mind that river cruising offers more inclusions than ocean, with complimentary tours, drinks and demos onboard.
WHAT GIVES US PAUSE: While it may be a good time of year to surprise a loved one with a future cruise, Viking tends to announce multiple early booking bonuses, so chances are likely that you will see a similar sale before next year if you need more time to book. If you are going strictly for the markets, keep in mind that you will need dates that extend into December, which is the prime time for them to be open.
