Steal of the Week: 24 Nights Sailing Mexico & Hawaii from $2,099

November 7, 2013 | By | No Comments

Everyone is looking for the deal of the century. So how do you choose the one that’s right for you? Check the Lido Deck each week to get the scoop on our favorite deals — then grab the phone and pack your bags.
THE DEAL: Holland America Line is offering a 24-night cruise to Mexico and Hawaii onboard Veendam, sailing roundtrip from San Diego on December 28, 2013. Prices start from $2,099 per person, for an inside cabin.

WHAT WE LOVE: What can you buy at the rate of $87 per night? How about a cruise through four Mexican ports, five Hawaiian destinations and 13 days to relax at sea? This Holland America sailing offers two itineraries in one for cruisers who can take off for a few weeks at a time. Reasonably priced for a holiday sailing, this deal allows you to spend New Year’s Eve sailing from Mazatlan to Puerto Vallarta (Cabo and Ensenada are also included in your port stops South of the Border). Once you arrive in Hawaii, see the beautiful cities of Lahaina, Nawiliwili, Honolulu, Hilo and Kona. At sea, expect performances akin to off-Broadway, with plenty of dining venues, bars and lounges. Explorations Cafe is a great spot to grab a coffee and space out in their ultra-comfy lounge chairs.
WHAT GIVES US PAUSE: If you’ve never sailed the line, do your research. Make sure the ship demographics match your cruising speed and style; otherwise, you may find yourself bored on those many sea days. If you like evenly spaced port days, this itinerary won’t appeal: Mexico is clumped right at the beginning with three consecutive stops, two days later you’re back in San Diego for a quick layover, then it’s five full days at sea until you reach Hawaii. After all that time in the middle of the ocean, you might be a bit dazed (or anxiously awaiting) five consecutive days at different Hawaiian ports.
