Love reading the Cruise Critic boards? So do we! And starting this Friday, we’ll end the week on the Lido Deck by selecting a few forum threads that have made us laugh, cry or argue the finer points of cruising.
Memorial Services at Sea. It’s hard not to tear up when you read this thread from cathy00, who is planning a memorial cruise on Carnival Splendor next year for her daughter Casey, who passed away at age 33. Diagnosed with breast cancer six weeks before her wedding, Casey, a teacher, was married on Carnival Pride in 2010. The post inspired others to not only connect cathy00 with Carnival guest services but share their stories of remembering loved ones at sea. We hope their words brought some comfort and condolences to the grieving family.
Black Tie Blunders, Shoe Edition: Cunard cruisers are known to be particularly fastidious with their formal attire. Not sure what footwear goes with your black tie? This thread started by Germancruiser gets into the nitty-gritty.
Search for Silver Foxes? On the Holland America forum, mamamzee wonders if anybody actually looks like the tall, slim and well-dressed folks shown in the cruise ship ads. (The consensus seems to be no, but if you find George Clooney lookalikes on your voyage, let us know — and send a picture!)
To Tip or Not Tip: The Perennial Question. Nothing — with the exception of smoking, perhaps — sparks more debate than tipping practices. On the Carnival board, srjones1 learns that the auto-tips put in place for main dining room servers are spread throughout the entire ship — and should be paid, regardless if you dine there in the evenings or not.
