A Yangtze River Gem

October 1, 2013 | By | 1 Comment

As seasoned travelers on both land and sea, member swifs and her husband had seen it all … well, almost. The two had never embarked on an escorted, tour-style vacation. But a river cruise seemed to be the perfect fit for their next bucket list destination: China.
Viking Cruises’ Shanghai-to-Beijing itinerary aboard Viking Emerald caught swifs’ eye. Pampering accommodations at the Pudong Shangri-La hotel got them acquainted with the city prior to setting sail, and upon boarding the ship, a similar aura abounded.

Everything from their French-balcony cabin and the shops to the activities and food came as a pleasant surprise. (At one point, swifs had to refrain from buying everything at one artist’s shop.)
When it came to the escorted tours, swifs and her husband left their worries — or lack thereof — on the river. The big crowds, time constraints and transfers they had come to know so well on previous cruises were not an issue there. And with the voice of their tour guide coming through her headphones, camera in hand, swifs was able to wander off and explore bits and pieces on her own. Read swifs’ full review for more details about food and entertainment aboard the ship.
For their efforts, swifs and four other Reviewers of the Week — BURNSMN, Disneydiva84, Highboy90 and cruz’n bug — receive Cruise Critic logo items.
